Re: BETRAYAL!

What DYNA said... I believe there will be a motion passed tomorrow night guys. The MEC will be mandated to renegotiate. If all the emotion I’m hearing here is real(and I’m sure it is), then the company would be stupid to not join us at the table. Don’t overreact until it’s over. Well maybe both MEC...

Re: One list

This is incorrect, flow doesn't change. The one list pertained to respecting DOH at the Westjet Group seniority. It now looks like a traditional airline structure with flow to the bottom of the list. ie 6 month Encore FO's who flowed to Swoop FO a year ago will have seniority over the 5 year Encore...

Re: One list

Sorry to all the Encore folks. Look on the bright side at least you still have a guaranteed job at mainline with flow and the top up pay which helps big time on the first two years. All in all its still not that bad when you think about it from that perspective. Your career progression is still int...

Re: WestJet to be Acquired by Onex

Good thing we are certified and have a collective agreement that includes our options. News says the company will also be taken private, curious how the employee share program will work going forward since stocks will not be traded anymore or if it will just cease to exist. There aren't any public ...

Re: One list

This thread is rife with entitlement and cynicism. I find it extremely disappointing (although not surprising) that some pilots here cannot look out onto the horizon beyond their own narrow self interest. For generations the career of a pilot has been defined by years of toil and sweat, rare hiring...

Canada's not that much better. Tons of DC-3s ripping around NW Ontario too. Granted they've got a PT6, but still.
Baslers are zero time airframes. They refurbish the entire aircraft in the conversion. There is a good factory video on YouTube.

Re: The moments before a Learjet crashed outside Teterboro Airport last May.

Wow that presentation was terrifying. I understand, especially a new pilot getting behind a fast aircraft like a Lear, but wtf. Why did the captain ignore repeated requests to take over? From a pilot not allowed to fly period?! (That chart of SIC1-4 still doesn't clarify much honestly. Did or didn'...

Re: The moments before a Learjet crashed outside Teterboro Airport last May.

When I listen to this, the sense I get is the PIC’s actions were consistent with impairment. I had difficulty downloading the NTSB stuff. Was there any toxilogical reports? Yes, Captain was negative for alcohol and drugs, FO was negative for alcohol and impairing drugs. (I would assume they found a...

FO was designated as SIC-0 which means he wasn't allowed to manipulate the controls How does a pilot deemed unfit to fly the plane, even under supervision, qualify as crew on an aircraft with a 2 crew minimum? https://www.ntsb.gov/investigations/AccidentReports/Reports/AAR1902.pdf 1.10.1.8 Trans-Pa...

Re: Ethiopian Airlines: 'No survivors' on crashed Boeing 737 max

Preliminary report out today says the crew correctly followed all procedures to handle the emergency. Pretty sure the media have quoted a press release from Ethiopian Airlines on that. I don’t think the report has been released...do you have a source? If you read the article by the CBC it says they...

Experience levels?
Both Captain and FO had difficulties with training and required remedial training to pass their rides. FO was designated as SIC-0 which means he wasn't allowed to manipulate the controls (but he was in fact the pilot flying until the last few seconds).

I'm going to go waaay beyond the pale and suggest that you do whatever seems like the most fun. All roads lead to Rome in aviation. Out of the two possibilities you've presented us, neither one is a guarantee of future success, nor is it a limiting factor. My first season "on the dock" was a comp,e...

Re: Hiring outlook

I think the 5+ years flow is more realistic. 80 pilots flowed in 2017. I believe it was less in 2018. It will likely be the same or less in 2019. I would go with 70 pilots per year.....equals well over 5 years. As the previous poster said you should thank your lucky stars to be rhs in a Q400 with 1...

Re: Hiring outlook

How do you figure 5 years to flow to mainline? 600 pilots at Encore. That would involve Encore flowing 120 a year. At the current 50% flow that means WJ would have to hire 240 pilots a year for the next 5 years. I'm not trying to sound pessimistic, but I don't think that type of growth is on the ho...

It wasn’t that long ago that you had to spend 5 to 10 years in the bush doing hard time before you had the time and relevant experience to get into Westjet. Now you can slide into Encore with a thousand hours of day VFR Caravan time. It wasn’t that long ago that you needed 3,000 hours to sit left s...

Re: Ethiopian Airlines: 'No survivors' on crashed Boeing 737 max

Is there any evidence this MCAS thing was responsible for either accident? It sounds pretty easy to deal with. It certainly was a factor in the Lion Air, pure speculation with Ethiopian as no data recorder info has been released yet. Either way you're correct though, it's a runaway stab regardless ...

Of those 6, only 1 actually met the company's requirement of having been at Encore ...
