Re: Digital logbook recommendations

I used an excel spreadsheet in the past. Worked great. That being said, if you will find yourself at an airline -- the sooner you get organized with a digital logbook the better. The fact that it takes your roster and automatically inputs into your logbook is worth it's weight in gold. mccPilotLog i...

Re: What was your longest non stop flight?

9.7 hrs airborne in a Hornet over Iraq and Syria. I have to ask. How did you handle the call of nature? Gliding guys use a relief tube. Something like a modified turkey baster with a tube .... also know as "The Polish Microphone" External/Internal Catheters Ziplock Bags I know one guy that us...

Re: Alcohol Free Beer

I have yet to find an alcohol-free beer that I could actually drink and enjoy. They all taste like watered down beer. I’m a craft IPA drinker and if i could find a good tasting alcohol free beer I would totally give up the alcohol beer. Check out Partake IPA. It's an Ontario "craft" IPA with 0.3% A...

Re: What was your longest non stop flight?

Engines hardly count.

5.5 in a glider with a 2000' release. Wave up to 10k, caped by airspace in NZ. I wasn't prepared for the flight, so I had to return to pee.

8.5 flat land soaring is impressive!!

Re: Vans RV4 info

Are you aware that RV4 kits are no longer manufactured? It looks like the quick build is not available, but it appears you can still buy kits for the RV4. Unless I'm reading the website wrong. They do however state that due to the decline is sales of some of the older model kits, the prices have go...

Re: Journey log items

I went through the log book and placed sticky notes on each page with the applicable time sensitive items prior to my flight test. Makes for an easy flip through to show the examiner if/when they ask.

Just a little tip.

Re: Taildragger Training in Ontario

Not quite....Gliding Clubs don't have the mentality of keeping all of those young whipper snappers looking for free flying at bay. Most are very inclusive and welcoming. If you show up and all you want to do is fly the tow plane ..... well, this club is not for you. Go find a power flying club. They...

Provided you are adequately prepared for the days lessons, and you feel that you are adequately rested - I think that the more frequent you fly, the better! Always go into those lessons having done your homework and don't try to put the hours in just for the sake of reaching the required time. Winte...

Some of the best spray strips I've operated off of were roads. A little narrow, but this is why your instructors tell you to keep it on the centre line! https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/CmjfVnjMY4oGBYwnGgBkGjhjOwjtydrIA0GN7p56bmY1Bn_cp_eKPwqpMRjVsj00YmbAUugLpNDRofuaqJZnfh5PuAANe0nyYZT9HY807ZfvwHLl-...

I ended up getting the DC Pro-X, I tried that out in the Lear 45 on the way down to Florida yesterday and at least for me, I think was the better purchase. I think I'm sold on getting the Pro-X, but I've yet to try it on. I keep bouncing back and forth from Clarity Aloft vs Pro-X. Does the Pro-X mo...

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread

I’ve seen people with zero post secondary education get hired, That's a curious statement. Is that for recent OTS guys/gals? I've heard rumours that if you have 500 hours of 705 Captain experience the post secondary can be waved, but I find that really hard to believe. I've never heard of guys with...

Re: SARON / SAMRA Feedback

The rule of thumb is to double the altitude and minus 15. Thus for FL240, 24x2=48. 48-15=33. The temperature in the example is -38, thus ISA -5.

Hope that clears things up.

Re: The problem with minimum wage ground crews

Most spray operators have it right. If you want someone to wake up at god awful hours, work long tedious days in scorching heat in a loud, dry, dust filled environment, and then wash rinse repeat running on E until it rains -- you have to pay them accordingly. $20-25 an hour is not uncommon. Even as...
