Re: DHC-2 Crash - Northern BC

Maybe I read that wrong, but the overweight and aft CG were of course not good, but they were not the cause of the crash, seems choosing a improper altitude for that flight and waiting till the last minute to climb were the cause of the crash. As much as I enjoy flying low on floats, with the visibi...

Re: BC minimum wage to reach $15.20, meaning that BC flight instructors will soon make less than a minimum wage employee

If an instructor is only getting 800 to 1000 hrs per yr perhaps they should look at working at a busier school. Or a school that doesn't overhire number of instructors. Of course there is no guaranteed hours due weather and whatnot, but that's fairly low yearly numbers. Personally I wouldn't use a ...

Re: What is your highest level of education?

You really don't get it. It's not about knowing exactly how many rivets are on a B777 rudder, or being able to break down the cause of the thunderstorm --on paper-- to the atomic level, its about operational experience, it's about being PIC, as in no nanny safety net, being the first and the last wo...

Re: Crossfit health issues?

Sounds like it's more a problem with the people being stupid than the exercise. Well in your expert opinion you must be so able to assess exercise routines from 2000 km away. I’ll let all the kinesiology students know that you are gonna put them out of work. God i just love asshat posters who know ...

Re: What is your highest level of education?

Passing a ride? Who cares? It's the experience gained in those 1500hrs that says something, with a real ATP you need a good amount of PIC time, cross country, night, instrument and so on, if you were a idiot you would likely have perished or had enough of a close call or two to get your ticket pull...

^That What do you even mean by this? Are you admonishing or praising his statement? I know you're more eloquent than that. I mean I agree with his statement, flying cargo, people, puppies, nuns, axe killers, doesn't make a bit of difference, the flight is safe and prudent or it's not, what's in the...

Thought about it, you really don't have much experience in the industry do you? And yes, you can see the quality of their hours and how they were logged based on their resume. You may very well have more experience than me, but I do hold an ATPL. And from my personal experience, passing both the AT...

Re: What is your highest level of education?

My university transcript states the courses I took, when I took them, the percentage I received, the letter grade I received, the class average, and my standing relative to my peers. What does your ATPL say? Does somebody who has 2000 hours instructing VFR in CAVOK get the same ATPL as someone flyi...

Re: Why would a scheduled air service be flying VFR in this weather?

Spoke to CP who spoke to captain. He leveled off at 800ft shortly after takeoff due to the cloud, then climbed to 1500 shortly after and had ground in sight at all times. (I was more concerned about hitting the obscured hills). CP says this captain is consciencious about safety. I don't know what t...

Re: Why would a scheduled air service be flying VFR in this weather?

OK with freight; not OK (morally, at least) with non-pilot pax. They're not capable of understanding the significantly-elevated risk of a flight like this vs other kinds of scheduled operations, even if it will usually turn out OK. A non-crew pilot passenger can evaluate for herself, and give infor...

I used to work at Walmart Canada head office (non-pilot). Knew the chief pilot and low-down is you are either on a Monday-Wednesday sched with 1-2 overnights or Thur-Fri sched (home Thursday night). Mostly all across Canada sometimes with many legs. Only U.S. trips were to Home office in Arkansas. ...

3 year aviation college diploma (paid by the government). Honestly, it does not make me a better pilot, it only shows that I can learn.......... If it was a 10 min flight I'd be questioning why they went ifr

That.

I don't see a problem ether, unless this was a 500nm night flight or some something.

CSE4 would be the closest IFR strip. If it worked with the DZ and it's open, weather permitting you could shoot the approach into CSE4 and break off for CSN3, with it being the absolute closest to piedmont https://preview.ibb.co/f8mufc/IMG_1729.jpg https://preview.ibb.co/iwQLLc/IMG_1730.jpg https://...

In my interactions; I find it amusing -- especially in Canada, far less in the US or overseas -- How much importance -- often its arrogance -- folks put on their degrees. Some people spend waaaay too much money to simply fly air machines! Keep in mind that some people have a degree necessary for a previous career and then moved on to aviation, like me. Same here, got my associates degree after I left highschool 2 years early, had my degree at 18, if I wouldn't have ...

For one comparing flying a plane to driving a truck is about the same as comparing plumbing a bathroom to performing vascular surgery. And for this entitled bit, not sure that's the right word, I mean it's very much a inferiority complex inducing way to saying it, but I wouldn't use the work "entitl...

A degree is like a CPL, it's proof that you meet certain standards. There are lots of educated and intelligent people without degrees, and many highly professional pilots without a CPL, but it just makes it easier for employers if you have the bit of paper proving it. One of the people posting here...

OK sure, all good then. HS grad hit the flight school and start working at 20. Sort of counter the argument about this being a profession on par with others when all you need is 12 months of flight school and a bunch of time in your logbook. I think we just solved the issue of pay, less formal educ...
