One can pay more for runway lights ,landing fees, and ATC for a 300 mile flight than you do for fuel! and fuel is not cheap... ...

Re: TBM Icing analysis video.
He could have flown south at 4500 or 6500 feet a few hundred miles (an hour?) in VFR! conditions. There was no pressing need to get up high other than saving fuel, as it was a turboprop. I am often boggled by the refusal to fly vfr when thunderstorms and or ice are present. It does not make you a le...

Re: Partial Engine Failure in a Piston Twin
if I had partial power, and no high oil temp , oil press ok, and it was not on fire,no visible oil/fuel leaks or shaking , i would leave it running.I would prefer fuel flows to be in line with approx power being produced, after all Its just an engine.... i might try alternate air, and or mess with m...

I would try to exhaust canadian planes as much as possible first. With our dollar right now planes are heading the other way.

Re: RCAF Cyclone Down
There may be tactical reasons to recover a helo quickly, sometimes they probably practice them. I will also wait for the report. I regret the loss of life, good folks serving the rest of us. The machine has some quirks it appears as well. this place (avcanada) has sure become hostile. It is no where...

Re: Owning and Operating a plane
I still say the cheapest flying most of us will ever do is when we rent.... Find a good school, fly a lot, like 4-5 hrs a week if you can swing it, if you can swing 6-7 hrs a week you will be done in 10 weeks. Too much to do learning to fly, to be learning to maintain and MANAGE the mtce... if the p...

Re: Closing airspace
Last time i landed there it was about 125.00 off hours, but it also had a de icing surcharge (did not need deice in July) and cost 75.00 to open the door at the fbo. that was enough....that was a few years back.

Re: Who's gotten a lay off?
The unions (if they are listening) should be doing a one time," share the flying that exists" among rated pilots. This will keep more pilots " warmed up". Senior types can probably live on one third of their flying.
