So Oz gets lower paid pilots to undercut the incumbents?
If I'm wrong please rebuke me, I'm curious to hear the arrangement.
Edit, just read it's a dry lease? Then who cares?

Re: AvCanada finally restored and functional once again
I doubt Russian hackers would have any desire to take down avcanada, there's no value or utility, but sure seems like either a brute force or ddos attack. Ddos is intentional and targeted purely for disruption, so someone would have to have an axe to grind. Brute force is also targeted, trying to lo...

Re: Emirates or Air Canada
One thing to note is that an upgrade carrot isn't regarded as the only way to start making a livable wage and an excuse to depress FO wages into poverty, so the necessity for the all-important upgrade we're clamoring for here doesn't exist. Capts make about 40% more than FO's at Emirates, not more t...

Re: Flair/Lynx Merger
I'm curious as to if the subsidy stops. Flair could go another 10 years just being propped up, who knows. The pockets are very deep and 777 must have a function for the money going to Flair. I think pilots there are safe for a few years at least anyways.

The disability benefit thing is an absolute drop in the bucket.
I wouldn't choose to have to be reliant on 60% STD from 60k a year, minus taxes, as opposed to making 20k a month

Re: New interview process
I'm not responding to the fidget-spinner level of decorum from other posters above, but rather for those interested, I'm a 100% anglo at Transat and there are many. Everything in the company is bilingual, and while yes, you'll be immersed in more French in some instances such as flying YUL-CDG, but ...

Re: Flair Suspending Growth Plans amid Delivery Delays and Debt
The thing is, Flair is in a unique situation, much different from the basic financial structure of the other failed small airlines. Simply put, they won't go under because they've run out of startup capital, the business will just continue to operate on a loss and 777 will continue to pay the bills....

I suppose it's around 2017-18 for current upgrades but that's including a 2 year covid layoff. Actual YOS is 4-5.
However anyone hired now will be 3-4, possibly less.

Re: window blows out on alaska airlines / emergency landing
There are pics floating around. Bolts had zero retention. No lockwire, washers, hell even loctite. Another apology from the CEO and "We'll learn from this" 346 people died last time Boeing was caught cutting corners and outsourcing to the lowest bidder. Not 1 Not 5 Not 100 Not 200 3.4.6. Last time i...

Re: WORLD CLASS CONTRACT: ALPA
What has been the annual increase in the contract since is was ratified in 2013ish? 2%? Correct And some former ACPA Reps wanted to keep the contract for exchange for 2% raises Thanks. (And really? That's blatantly obscene.) So in total a 21.9% increase since 2013 over 10 years. Meanwhile "Official...

Re: Bearskin cuts routes.
On a more serious note connectivity in the North is a constant tug-of-war. The economics aren't there to support constant availability for sporadic passengers, and subsidy via mail and cargo doesn't always work. It's likely that someone with a different structure will hopefully fill in the gap, and ...

Re: Transat or Porter?
If you want lifestyle and money (Long term weighted), Transat definitely blocks you less working days overall. Current contract is falling behind but will be regenotiated next year. If you want 14-15 working days of layovers all over Europe you can do it, or if you want 9-12 days of turns down south...

Re: Transat or Porter?
I'd be genuinely curious to compare schedules of 10y FO's at TS and 37/320 at AC. Pay is essentially the same. TS is slightly higher on paper but less take-home. My first thought would be that Transat would still yield better with inherently longer legs and less working days, but I don't know enough...

Re: Newbie Pilot just received upfront training bond offer
I personally don't know of anyone off the top of my head who's signed an upfront bond and we've all made it just fine. I'd consider it a bit of a red flag. It was always the shady operators asking for this kind of thing. That's not to say there are plenty of folks who have, and it's worked out fine-...

ME3 Widebody Capt Net $490,000 - converted to CAD at the 2023 average exchange rate. 980 paid hours last year - average of 81 hours per month with around 30 of those in the bunk (normal to get 2 ULR flights per month). "Best" months 10 days on (2x vacation months). "Worst" month 20 days on (1x). Av...

Aggregated US regional payscales
Came across this today, thought I'd post it as a reference. Not sure about the accuracy, and it definitely doesn't include the signing bonuses.
