I wonder if the forum administrators would give us one in the private Company Forums a la Jazz etc. Of course access and then maintenance would have to be managed. Any volunteers? No management please!

Re: Scheduling of double midnights

Here's ours... 7 evenings (3h30-11h36) Monday off. 11 days (07h30-15h36) with a quick change on the 11th day, meaning we come back that very same evening for 7 midnights (23h30-07h36). Saturday and sunday off. Back on evenings. You work 7 on 1 off, 18 on 2 off? 3 days off every 28? Scheduled as per...

Re: Scheduling of double midnights

I have never seen the mid run at plus 1 anywhere, they won't even let us go one over on the mid shift here. Don't know what region you're in but talk to your VP and get on this, it shouldn't be this way. We often run 1 over on the midnights (mins are 2) and occasionally they run 2 over (I've never ...

Re: Tower ->Terminal handoff

I think that if the CAATS takes into account the NARDS SD than it could make METAR development more realistic to the ACARS workload. I personally enjoy the updated CVIDS displayed beside the unused RRTU, but as the new SOLACAM switches take over, my confidence is heightened. As an IFR, I am pleased...

Re: What are the best prescription sunglasses?

Having never worn Nikons I can't compare the two. But if you would like to check out the two lens makers go to:

http://www.corning.com/ophthalmic/
http://www.nikonlenswear.ca/en/index.php

Maybe that will help you decide. Don't forget to talk to an ophthalmologist either.

Re: What are the best prescription sunglasses?

A "Serengeti tint" as copied by someone as a cost saving measure is not the same as the real deal. I have had both and can tell you that the lenses made by Corning Optics (they are glass only) and the real tint are unparalleled. If you have never tried them you don't know what you are missing. As fo...

I suspect in North Bay where they used to (still do?) train the air weapons guys.

Re: Twotter engine failure

I am almost afraid to wade into this mess but........ I will confess that I know nothing about what is being discussed here and that is the frame of mind that came up with my question: In the event that you knowingly (for whatever reason - good/bad/ugly) break the rules and God forbid something bad ...

Re: What are the best prescription sunglasses?

My absolute favorites of all time are Serengeti prescription. Expect to pay around $500 and up (Depending on frame) for a prescription pair but it is well worth it! If you don't want to spend that much, Raybans are a good alternative for a few hundred less.

If I am not mistaken, back in the early 90's an unusually large number of our Winnipeg brethren fell ill at the same time. I was working in Cold Lake at the time and our airspace was huge with no vertical cap. We received a call from Ottawa telling us what was going on and asking would we be able to...

Truly entertaining...we've actually turned on ourselves on this one. On-course four of the big posters on this topic are all from the same centre..hehehe Can't be referring to me on this one! I have only made two posts regarding CAATS, one a question, that was never answered, and the second a bit o...

The few licences that have been produced by the new training style have only been at work for a handful of months, depending on which centre you're talking about. And direct-entry IFR has been a reality for over a decade. The changes I am referring to have been happening ever since the company went...

And what if this happens at a real live IFR centre? It has, by the way. Although proper redundancies in equipment make it highly unlikely. There's no reason why you couldn't equip a "virtual tower" (never heard of the concept myself) similarly. Interesting that you say on the one hand it has happen...

Will this virtual tower be run by virtual controllers who hold a virtual license? What if something goes wrong? What if the power goes out or the data feed gets dropped? Virtual liability? What a dumb idea. Maybe we could close all the towers and have the equivalent of "centers" for VFR.

I think it can all boil down to this: It is a great career with awesome co-workers. The problems at the national level generally don't affect you on a day to day basis. The local level is another issue. If you are at a site with poor and/or ineffective local management you will tend to see more diss...

There are certain circumstances outlined in CARS that waive the 250 kts speed limit. Having said that, none of them involve ATC. We have no authority whatsoever to waive the 250.

Care to elaborate? If I am not mistaken, CAATS is supposed to pass estimates and data between sectors/centers. Is Moncton not using it for this?
