Re: Negotiations

Does ratification of a deal defining a 30% flow through compromise the ability to grieve AC not honouring the 60% flow through? I would think it may, you have just created your own “remedy.”

More surprising to me was that there was a passenger in the airplane during the airshow. Very lucky nobody was hurt on the ground.

I cannot imagine MS walking into a Jazz ground school, much less ever making a statement as legally damaging as that. I call b$&&$#*t.

Re: Maybe we should work together?

Ripplerock…
Bargaining capital is not the same as concessionary or zero costs bargaining. But it still exists, and we have a LOT more of it than we used to, but also not an infinite amount.

So back to my original question, what does “working together” look like and what is in it for each party?

Re: Maybe we should work together?

Link…. Working together implies potential mutual benefits. I can think of a lot of items that mainline pilots could spend negotiating capital on that would benefit Jazz pilots. What could Jazz pilots spend their negotiating capital on (if they could actually negotiate) that would benefit mainline pi...

Re: Biennial flight review requirement coming to Canada from 2024

Not trying to be argumentative here but honestly trying to understand how this is going to work. I get that the majority of recreational pilots fly relatively common aircraft but a large number don’t. Recreationally I fly a DH Beaver on both wheels and floats, a Harvard, and a Stearman. I also do a ...

Re: Wide body with no former jet-time

This has nothing to do with fatigue regulations. It is about ensuring a comfortable level of experience for the expected flight. Sometimes (for example navigating lines of thunderstorms around the equator) I would prefer myself in the flight deck at certain times, and those times may not coincide ni...

Re: Wide body with no former jet-time

Stall... What an arrogant response that shows you probably have little if any experience operating multi crew ETOPS flights. My union related political opinions or ideas for how the airline should be managed are most likely poorly understood by yourself, but in any event are irrelevant. Myself and m...

Re: Wide body with no former jet-time

Tigger/Pelmet +1 I have been in the exact position you describe and elected not to take much of a crew rest break out of the cockpit because of it. D.P. Davies wrote a very comprehensive book (Handling the Big Jets) that used to be almost required reading for new hires. It was the “Bible” of knowled...

Latest new hire class had 11 pilots with 705 jet time, 5 of them with heavy time.

Re: Smaller Westjet vs Pay Pilots

Walked two pilot picket lines long ago, (one strike, one lockout), a few thoughts. The threat of a strike is very powerful because of the effect it has in advance bookings. Usually your best deal is a few hours before the strike occurs. The first week of a strike is ok. It is all new and exciting an...

Yes, and they all have ATPL’s. And they are all working for companies that thanks to economies of scale and large government COVID bailouts are highly profitable.
Not saying we don’t deserve large pay raises or that flow couldn’t work, but the playing field is pretty different above the frost belt.

Re: Why did you switch from WJ mainline to AC?

I would imagine there are many reasons AC has a vast number of Teal coloured resumes on file. When you consider lifetime career earnings there is simply no comparison. It is an “apples to oranges” comparison with a lot of future unknowns including future growth at both airlines, but it roughly looks...

In addition to some of the conclusions and comments, 1.8 “G” at liftoff shows a stunning lack of understanding of basic aerodynamics.

A number of years ago all the pilot groups in Canada got together and spent several years lobbying Transport Canada to improve the then Nigerian like flight duty time regulations. Obviously their efforts were opposed by industry but despite this, TC eventually agreed to change and improve the regula...

Re: Ethiopian Airlines: 'No survivors' on crashed Boeing 737 max

Shortly after the 737-Max was grounded, the FAA did a study and concluded that if the aircraft was allowed to keep flying, even with the additional training that Boeing was proposing, an estimated further 6 MCAS related hull losses would occur worldwide in the next 2 years. That an airplane was eve...

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread

There is no definitive answer to this question because at this point AC is trying to hire from as diverse a group of pilots as possible, subject to the distortions caused by the PML. Hiring from a single stream, any stream, creates problems. High time B1900 captains often struggle with an initial tr...
