Re: 17 year TA?
The entire airline community in Canada outside of Jazz is watching this vote guys. How do you think you'll be viewed if it passes? You'll be branded with this for years to come. You know you're allowed to say no right? You're born with a spine. Use it, or you're simply a Darwinian case study It’s c...

Re: Think carefully before you make your next move
You’re letting emotion influence your thinking, like I am however I’ve realized a long time ago the rich get richer and me trying to stick it to the man won’t do anything but affect my livelihood. They all bounce back or land on their feet, look at the payout for Saretsky, he violated a written agr...

Re: Canadian Pilot Unity
GGN guys got pfo'd at Jazz. We worked hard at our interviews and got in. BOTL is a fair deal. If you're not happy to have a job after you've lost yours then go to swg or air Tran. On a side note; going to Swg or TS would be a better move than Jazz. I did all them and I don’t miss Jazz at all ...pay...

Re: Sharper Edge ATPL
As far as the content that is in it, it's not a bad book. However it's far from sufficient on its own. I would suggest supplementing that book with other books to ensure you don't miss anything because as others said, there's definitely gaps in what it covers vs what is on the exams.

Re: First kid
Excuse my ignorance, but why would anyone in their right mind choose to have a kid on an FO salary with a wife not making much money, or altogether quitting her job to raise it? Ever heard of birth control? Assuming it was all a choice to begin with. It just doesn’t seem like smart planning. Jeez, ...

Re: First kid
When someone can afford it is completely subjective. Everyone’s lifestyle is different and not everyone has the compulsive need to keep up with the Jones’ either so maybe one family can afford it on a low budget and maybe one can’t. Crunch your own numbers and decide for yourself if you can afford i...

I agree with the above. Don't chase the size of the metal, PIC is king especially if you don't already have a bunch.

Re: First kid
My advice is to get divorced as soon as possible ( if this is your first marriage it’s going to happen eventually) Then you both remarry. It’s easier to raise a child on 4 saleries This has to be one of the most idiotic posts I’ve seen on this forum. You don’t know this couple, so keep your doom an...

Re: First kid
Something to remember. You can always make more money, but you’ll never get the time back. Take a look at the contract. You can go on a RTB for up to two years from the birth. Seriously consider that. I was an FO when we had our first. You WILL find a way to make it work. Spend the time with the fa...

Re: Jazz Pilot Pool
It's been a long time I didn't see a classic spot on the GS. Is there still Dh8 bidding available, or are we heading to only have CRJ and Q4 ? The classic is over staffed. I think 15 FO reserve lines in YYC. This seemed inaccurate, I'm told there's 3 and that 15 would be more than half the FO roste...

Re: Duty rules?
SFO was a legal duty period under the new regs. For Colgan a contributing factor was FC not using their time free from duty properly ie commuting vs sleeping. Something the unions in Canada would not touch with a 10' pole even though it clearly unsafe. The rules need to be updated but the current p...

Re: AC soars, WJ nosedives
Never ceases to amaze me how many pilots seem to believe they’re financial experts. Just because you’re a pilot, doesn’t mean you have any real clue about the financials of where you work or where other people work. Have your opinion, others will have theirs, life goes on. If pilots spent half as mu...

I’m not the most familiar with Ontario, but a quick search turned up places like Georgian Bay Airways which does float training in Ontario. Maybe look into that?

Re: Letter of Recommendation
I echo the previous comments as well; whoever is recommending you has their own responsibility to only recommend students who are actually ready for any tests they wish to take. Therefore especially in the case that you partial or fail an exam, if you want that recommend, you need to prove you can p...

Re: Commercial or ATP License with Category 3 Medical
Maybe I am wrong, but I've always understood it to be that when you possess a CPL or ATPL, you must have a cat 1 medical to exercise those privileges but you can still exercise the privileges of a PPL if you have a cat 3. So my assumption would be that if you went and got a cat 3 medical, TC would s...

Re: Tired of the Canadian Aviation Industry
Home is home for me. I doubt very much whether you could convince me to leave Canada (depending where but most places are a no for me). I enjoy what I do, where I live, and I have a good quality of life. The key is living within your means and I've learned that the hard way once already. I do howeve...

Re: Commercial or ATP License with Category 3 Medical
If that's the case then I misunderstood what situation PJ was asking about. If it's a situation where you are unable to get a cat 1 and just want to have a cat 3 to be able to fly recreationally, then I could maybe see TC making you drop to a PPL permanently but at that point again I'd suggest askin...
