Re: Kenn Borek Air Info

Hmmmm, there SOP's don't allow a co-pilot to reject a Takeoff.......if two crew is your thing, this might not be a place for you Pretty standard for 705 - captain always does the reject - anyone can call a failure but captain calls and does the reject and assumes control of he is non flying pilot. ...

Re: Wow, requirements really going down...

There is an irony here. The demand is draining the mum and pop operations to the point they might start shutting doors unless the owners qualify for chief pilot and ops manager positions. It's impossible to meet TC's requirements. This in turn dries up the pilot pool for the level 2 carriers who are...

Re: Engine heaters.

Have you ever *actually* heard of an insurance company refusing a claim on that basis? Not a claim but a threat to cancel insurance coverage if the "car warmers" were not removed and not used and engines were only continuously heated for aircraft parking with an approved system. Needless to say the...

Re: Engine heaters.

One word of caution -- buddy heaters, car warmers and any unapproved heater would likely void or at the very least get you into a real pissing match with your insurance provider if your aircraft caught fire, especially in this day of anal retentive reality. I say go with an approved system even if i...

Re: What is the deal with all the French on the radio?

I can understand the French only in QC. However I recall flying around eastern Ontario (Timmins/Chapleau) and hearing a lot of French on 126.7. It made me pretty uncomfortable because for all I know they could be 1NM away or 30NM away. Out of QC, all uncontrolled calls should be made in English or ...

Re: What is the deal with all the French on the radio?

Canada is one of the few places where a language other than English is allowed; it is actually illegal in France. I must call Bull Sh1t on the statement - I have flown in almost every country in Europe and unless the laws have changed recently local aircraft were controlled in local language and, I...

Re: Max Flight time you can log

Experience levels are so low these days I think all log book time should be based on air time. That maybe help to have actual 1500 hour captains on a -8 :smt040

Re: R-985 operation and leaning.

Many years since I was behind a junior. As Cat points out, abrupt throttle movements are a strict no no. Power settings we used were 28/1800 and 30/2000 for climb I have had americans sit beside me and as why power setting were so low. They used 30/2000 for cruise (that was in a bch18). A very old t...

Re: Manitoba Medevac

The aircraft where staffed 24/7 with two crews. -- What a concept. Where did that go. Time for a little history lesson, BTW 20 years is recent history to some and the erosion of sensible thinking started long before that. Let's go back close to 40 years and look at how medevacs were conducted. Onta...

Re: Manitoba Medevac

At the end of the day it's all about the money. The cut throat bidding just leads to abuse of the one area which has the most rolling costs, pilots !! These operators have proven that safety is not their real concern. It's all about the bottom line. The other side of the coin is that most low time p...

Don't worry there will always be jobs. It's only small part of aviation operates modern equipment. just means all pilots might need to work for a living -- LMFAOOOooooo - eventually everyone gets old enough to realise, time marches on and waits for no one. We all will eventually start talk...

Re: YRL - The good the bad and the ugly

It's been kicked around a little. Venue location seems to be an issue. We need easy access since most can use travel benefits to get there. Winnipeg seems to be the place of choice. If that's the case I say we just make it a free for all -- haha -- it's hard to know how big or small it could be. I t...

Re: Boeing studies pilotless airplane

From my scan of the thread and I might of missed it but no one is mentioning the one basic flaw. How do you integrate advanced technology with, by that time 100 year old technology. Aviation is not all about dream liners and heavy metal. The majority of aircraft around will be still out dated by the...

Re: 185 Max External Load

Now you need an approved external load system -- I don't think cessna has one -- having said that even back in the 60's the company i worked for would not haul external loads on a 180 or 185 because of the cost of overhauling tail feathers.

Re: Expired GPS database

I get it, but what does fly in the face of logic is that fixation on the phrase "it's legal" and the disregarding of common sense and the ability to make safe decisions when "it's legal" happens to be brain fart like leaving your license at home or just missing a D/B update. I would never purposely ...

Re: Expired GPS database

What's wrong with an expired GPS D/B if you confirm all points and I understand you can use an expired approach as long as there have been no changes and have confirmed this with current publications. You are sitting in B/F nowhere and won't use an expired GPS data base to get home -- come on gents ...

Re: Thinking about stepping away from the game for a bit

That is correct. You can split the time but not "double" dip. Depending on your career goals taking time off does affect you career mostly from the point of view of seniority. If airlines are not in your sights then taking time off just "freezes" you and you come back basically with what you had to ...
