Re: Skynorth air

500 hours TT is probably a government requirement for medevac pilots in Manitoba; the fact that SNA has dropped their requirements is just a reflection of the current hiring environment. They probably were not getting any resumes at 500MPIC... Correct. 500tt for fo’s and i think 1500 and 500 pic is...

Re: Porter Airlines: First Officer - Dash 8

I agree that sounds like a completely reasonable/ achievable goal for the FOAG committee in upcoming meetings. FO’s are not necessarily of wildly different experience levels between the two and the Q captains shouldn’t start the same as a PC12 captain with only 1000-1200 hrs these days.

Re: Porter Airlines: First Officer - Dash 8

Encore to captain upgrade is one year, its approx one year at swoop aswell. Wj mainline upgrade times are really bad (not as bad as your saying) but still very bad. That's one of the big things being worked on with the new contract. But if upgrading is what is important its extremely easy at both e...

Re: Porter Airlines: First Officer - Dash 8

I know exactly how wj pay is broken doen. Its been explained multiple times and that 1300 and 1700 is always the answer to any thread on here about “first year take home” for westjet. Easy enough. The 1600 paystub from Porter was 0 OT, just normal flying for an FO after deductions. Yes hourly its di...

Re: Porter Airlines: First Officer - Dash 8

Man.. your logic and bias is so flawed. Let me explain. 1. You are comparing a senior porter to a junior OTS FO at WJ mainline. 2. You are comparing the poters FULL pay check to the WJ mainline pilots pay stub AFTER deductions (which is probably 30 %) which that money is put into a investment and c...

Nothing says career progression like 12-15 year upgrade times and a flow agreement thats’s not being honoured.

Re: Porter Airlines: First Officer - Dash 8

I have multiple friends at porter, been there years. They are CONSTANTLY complaining about the schedule. Now some have recently upgraded to captain, and they are going through the whole senority struggle a second time. That's just how senority systems work, they are not recreating the wheel here. Y...

Re: Porter Airlines: First Officer - Dash 8

Yes, no pilot should join encore thinking they are going g to work in YYZ ( the base is closing, that is mo secret). And honestly EVERY COMPANY treats their pilots like shit, porter is NO different. They have no contract no union and no protections. Tbey are expanding at a hugely massive rate, and ...

Re: Porter Airlines: First Officer - Dash 8

Don't compare Porter to Encore. Encore treats it's pilots like shit. Sure, the current pay is more than Porter, but if you don't want to commute and you want to live in the Golden Horseshoe, Encore is not the right choice for you. First, the last YYZ Encore hire was mid-2022. Second, the last YYZ E...

Re: Porter Airlines: First Officer - Dash 8

Encore is not Porter competition. Haha as much as some might say a Q400 operator going from airport to airport in Canada is competition I wouldn’t touch encore You realize encore starting FOs make 35% higher pay then a starting porter pilot? And aswell, encore is socialized bidding, which means a g...

Re: Convert Canadian ATPL to FAA

If you are married, Check to see if your wife has a job that is easier to sponsor. If you aren't married, marry a RN. Quite possibly the easiest realtively common career to get a Green Card for, only half joking..... Not a bad idea, but keep in mind some spousal visa's do not allow the spouse to be...

Re: All you underpaid airline pilots...

Has anybody here successfully converted TC to FAA and scored an airline job in the US? I recognize from the first post that it could be ~$6000 USD to convert, but would a single guy (who can move anywhere) with 1500+ hours and an ATPL have a shot realistically at sponsorship/a VISA and a job, or na...

Re: Recruiting Video

Whether Sunwing is a “Major” or not doesn't matter in this context. Its a 705 scheduled airline. If they can train 250 hrs cadets so can the others. A 737 800 is a 737 800 paint scheme doesn’t change that.

Re: Recruiting Video

I’m not terribly upset by it (more surprised given how pleasant and smooth the interview went), just more pointing out a lot of the “they can’t find anyone” is just rumour mill nonsense.

Re: Recruiting Video

Back to the thread. The last ground school had 5 new hires in, the latest class has a grand total of ZERO. That's right. They had to cancel, sorry "postpone" the course. So now WJ can't find a single pilot willing to come here. All the while we lose 1 pilot every day on average. At this rate they w...

Re: Interview

I have 1500-1600 freshly minted atpl. Got called the day after I applied. Interview was 90 minutes, one pilot one HR rep. All the normal questions. Tell me about a time, etc. have you ever failed a ppc, why westjet, then they actually taoe a decent amount of time on their “checklist” where they tell...
