Re: Meet Swoop - WestJet's ultra-low-cost carrier has a name, a home and a purpose

What would have happened if Rouge had launched with a separate list? I imagine a lot of whipsawing and a bitter divided workforce. They couldn't launch with a seperate list. The flying is scoped and owned by ACPA pilots. We voted "No" to second tier wawcon and then the government shoved it down our...

Re: Meet Swoop - WestJet's ultra-low-cost carrier has a name, a home and a purpose

Here we go. From an outsider looking in, it's obvious that their proposed staffing will likely want to come from Encore. It's a brutal blow to our industry no matter how this is sliced... unless we remain strong in our commitment to shed the bs of this industry and trying to reduce WAWCON. The best...

Re: Meet Swoop - WestJet's ultra-low-cost carrier has a name, a home and a purpose

I sure hope the bank can give me a loan for my 737 type rating...maybe use my house as collateral. I'd really like to fly the 737 and don't mind pink. How low are we going to go? I have never seen hiring like this in my career, and yet we have what I thought was a respectable company trying to driv...

HR has said the portal will open "in the fall".

So...soon. My prediction - October.

With this kind of hiring, they are going to be busy

Re: New TA?

I would much much rather be on a DB but it wasn't an option... I guess you take what you can get as the saying goes The RP example was just an illustration of another reason why the company had zero interest in a DB. They want career progression, and with a lot of growth and retirements in the futur...

Re: New TA?

You can cash out the MEPP via a "transfer value" or defer the annuity to age 60 with no penalties. Regulations could change for the MEPP, who knows as more employers grab onto the idea as it gets lots of income tax relief. Even if this were to happen, AC would still be on the hook for contributions....

Re: New TA?

Yes I read the MOA, and it's purpose is that AC must still contribute to an interim DC if there are regulatory changes. It's there to protect us from AC avoiding contributions. All the contributions up to that point are in the multi employer pension plan and AC isn't touching it... The new plan isn'...

Re: New TA?

My bargaining position on pensions esp DB is I believe somebody- either the company or a bitter, ignorant faction of DCer's- is going to try to take it away. So I am only interested in improvements that result in money now, not later. The pensions are not equal no, but we just spent our entire wad ...

Re: New TA?

So much misinformation and opinions out there. People complain that the union publishes propaganda to push through their TA but yet these mysterious anonymous cards and "fact sheets" riddled with inaccuracies are ok. At least the union puts names on their releases. They are held accountable. The pen...

Re: New TA?

The company contributes a higher percentage than the employee. It really is a very very good DC pension. Not a DC pension to start with. What someone was referring to was the pension payout is higher than the DC because the employee/employer pay into it more since there is no ITA limits. In fact if...

Re: When is AC hiring again?

Latest rumour I heard, from a source that I consider reliable, is a course of 30, every 3 weeks, indefinitely

With retirements and big growth at mainline & Rouge, it is going to be getting pretty crazy, in my opinion

Glass half full, folks

Re: Future YYC pilot base?

Bottom line - AC year 1/2/3/4 year FO/RP pay is a fraction of that paid by all other North American legacy carriers. This is not a COLA issue, it is a straight cost saving centre for AC. One year? Fine. Two yeas? Really? Three years? Four years? By the end of 2018 there will be over 1000 AC pilots ...

Re: Pilot Seniority Porting

So my question for the MEC would be:

What did the members get for this?

This is obviously good for Wasaya and Bearskin for attracting pilots, good for Jazz to find more pilots, but what does this do for the junior members???

If they just gave this away to the company, I would be asking questions

If you're looking strictly at having an easy commute and not sleeping in a crash pad... RP is it for quite a while in your career. 3 pairings for 9 days/month. Until you can hold same schedule as an F/O or Captain anyway.. (currently approx 12+ years / 30 years). Of course you can do alright if you...

Re: Accruing seniority before you get on property?

Retirements and expansion. More like course rights. People are being way more selective about when and where they live, as nice there are only a limited number of times you can. On that note, anybody able to provide a run down on the conditions of changing equipment? Other examples: if you're on ma...
