Re: CYBW Mooney Crash

I believe that it came to a very sudden stop, not in the direction of flight, and a wing was ripped off. I can imagine fatal deceleration forces. That was my interpretation as well. Right wing gone, fuselage kinked to the right behind the passenger compartment, and cowling crunched on front passeng...

Re: Spot tracker or Gamin Inreach

By and large, the ADS-B data you see on FA comes from a massive network of private ground stations. Many are just an antenna on some guy's house, connected to a PC running the right software and uploading the the FA servers. ADS-B works way better at long range, with very minimal ground infrastruct...

Re: Spot tracker or Gamin Inreach

- FlightAware , FR24, ADS-B Exchange, etc all use private ADS-B ground based receiver networks to feed their sites... they don't have access to ATC data directly -for private use, the Aireon space based ADS-B data is available through a few channels - primarily FlightAware , who is their main comme...

Re: Spot tracker or Gamin Inreach

It does seem to depend on line of sight though, low level data does not get displayed. I'm wondering if the 2 second resolution will still be achievable if everything goes through satellite. Define "low level"? My track above has me on takeoff within 100m and has my low approach on departure down t...

Re: Spot tracker or Gamin Inreach

Compare the ADSB and SPOT tracks (5 minute resolution) for my flight this past weekend... ADSB is simply blowing everyone out of the water in terms of track quality. All it needs is a panel-mounted "Oh-Sh*t" button that you could hit in an emergency, or a G-switch like the one in your ELT, and we'd ...

Yup. New user request and wait for the mailed key to whatever address is last known by TC. If you submitted multiple requests, you might receive multiple letters, and the first one may or may not work anymore. Can confirm that a second request will make the first one stop working as they'll cancel ...

Re: NavCan Fee jump 30%

As much as it sucks the reason the fee’s went up was the lack of traffic due to Covid from the airlines. Like it or not the services Nav Canada provides is to GA is greatly subsidized by airline traffic especially over flight traffic. Exactly as it should be. Commercial operators have a revenue str...

Re: Trudeau’s proposed luxury tax…

The tax is paid, no more than once, for any plane newer than 2018, when it’s imported or sold by a Canadian manufacturer into Canada, for luxury purposes. Newer than 2018 is new to me. Thanks for highlighting that. So most of the used aircraft from the US that someone would want to import will like...

I believe it also applies to USED airplanes, that are imported from the US. Which is a significant market, given the larger selection and lower prices.

No. There are lots of options cheaper than a multimillion dollar bizjet... Even a 100K plane, when it comes right down to it.

But there are very few options for a GA pilot right now under 100K.

Re: Trudeau’s proposed luxury tax…

From what I understand, the new allowance for business travel will mean that if it's used for genuine business related travel, it's not a luxury good. If it's owned by a business, but flown for pleasure, or for activities that aren't part of the business, it is a luxury. Okay, how about someone who...

Re: Trudeau’s proposed luxury tax…

Businesses buying an aircraft will have to pay the luxury tax just like everyone else, unless substantially all the use of the aircraft is for a qualifying exempt activity. The new proposal is that "qualifying flights that are conducted in the course of a business with a reasonable expectation of p...

Re: Trudeau’s proposed luxury tax…

I don’t understand your question. What is unclear about what I wrote? Well, for starters, there are lots of aircraft owned by businesses consisting of one individual owner/operator. The only "income" is the money paid to the corporation to cover the costs of the corporation, those being the operati...

Re: Trudeau’s proposed luxury tax…

It has to be a business operating for profit, so it’s going to need income. And the income needs to come from people not associated with the business, so you can’t be your own business’s only or main customer. In other words, it needs to be a genuine charter operation. Are you referring specificall...

Re: China Eastern 737 down

We know part of the aircraft came off either causing the initial upset or happening very shortly after the initial upset. Reference? The 2 videos show a different crash - so I assuming that each video shows a different section of the aircraft - rather than 1 intact aircraft. I've only seen the vide...

Re: China Eastern 737 down

Circling back to that adsb data, have a question for those a bit more 'in the know' on how the avionics work on the -800. Is the altitude reported on that adsb track coming from a pressure source, or from a gps source ? Assuming ADS-B in airliners report the same as in GA aircraft, altitude is repo...
