Not so much additional layers of managers as duplicates...chopsticks wrote:Well, in the article it states that the LCC will have a separate management team. I think that's great, because if there's anything Air Canada needs to do in order to cut costs is to add more layers of management!

Re: Jazz Pilot Bid Out
29 plus attrition. Should be closer to 80-100 new hires at Jazz over the next 12 months. And as for the CRJ, there will be more reductions in that fleet type coming as well. Some replaced by Q400, some replaced by CRJ705/900, and some not replaced at all. Has any information with respect to further...

Re: Air Canada Pool
Being told the next ground school will be in November, there were 50 vacancies on the latest bid with 18 of those spots being filled by the September course. Things are likely to slow down with pilots now staying past 60. The total number of pilots required will not increase until the 787's start ar...

Re: Air Canada Interviews
For anyone joining Air Canada after 1st Aug 2012. - 2 years flat salary is gone, new pilots will now be paid a fixed hourly rate for their first 4 years. They will make more in the first 2 years than the old contract and about the same as the old Position Group rate in years 3 and 4. They are also a...

Re: Air Canada Interviews
Just wondering how much of an understanding of the new working conditions those applying or in the interview process at Air Canada have at this time? I'm sure it's somewhere between a Siberian work camp and the perfect job. While not perfect, I believe it's a fine place to work. Dont rain on our pa...

Re: getting a flying job these days !
Seems that most pilots tend to think whatever approach they've taken to their career in aviation tends to result in the most qualified people, might be a self-serving bias, but maybe we simply find it easier to relate to pilots that have had similar career paths? Ultimately the most success way to e...

Re: Air Canada Interviews
Well I interviewed late June and have not heard anything back yet. They told me to email them if I hadn't heard anything in over 6 weeks to contact them. I did over a week ago and still have not heard back from them. I am not very impressed. My guess is they probably sent out the first round of job...

Re: Equipment Bid
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't an RP position mean you're only assigned to sit on the flight deck and monitor the systems during high level cruise. Any taxing, take-offs, landings and approaches are all done by the CA and FO on the flight. Is this correct? If this is the case, personally I wo...

Re: Equipment Bid
YWGGuy The bid results should be out by the time your class bids. Simulator availability determines which positions are ultimately available, but that wouldn't prohibit you from being able to bid for any YVR or YUL vacancies. Unfortunately at this point no one would be able to provide you with any a...

Re: Intervals between 1st and 2nd attempts at Interview
What a ridiculously inefficient and obviously ineffective hiring process. Sorry. No help here. Just had to say it. How it the hiring process ineffective? For that matter how is it inefficient? Air Canada has hired over 1000 pilots since 2005, and roughly 250 this year alone, it must be somewhat eff...

ZBBLYW, try re-reading Changes in Latitudes post out loud in the most sarcastic tone possible… Jack in the Box, in a free market employees are able to negotiate their wages, benefits and working conditions 'freely' with their employer. The truth is bringing Derek Vanstone onboard will probably benef...

Re: Seeking Air Canada Pilot
I worked my ass off instructing for 4 years and I still had to start off on the ramp before they would let me in the right seat of a Navajo. The only thing the Instructing did was give me the PIC time to expedite my ATPL. It's so easy to get caught up in that world hustling for students and twin ti...

Re: Initial Training
Expect a TA1 type deal with less scope protections. Shouldn't be too long of a wait anyways.
IMHO waiting to see what is forced upon the pilot group (sorry, I just can't call it a 'Collective Agreement') would be the bigger gamble.

Re: Final Air France Report Out
Was the RADAR working ? I would guess it was not working at 100 percent, why else would any pilot fly into a large nasty CB. Maybe they should take a look at the RADARs on their planes as this was the second fight they lost with a CB. From what I've read this flight had been filed to Madrid with CDG...

Re: reason(s) for a p.f.o.
I believe this has been mentioned here before, but my understanding of the interview process at Air Canada is that candidates are essentially given a grade. While the medical is pass fail the interview transcriptions are given a mark, those with the top marks are invited to the next ground school. T...
