Here is a good read if you’d like to understand what is happening behind the scenes:

Re: Frost formation

The ground, airplanes, cars, etc. all radiate their heat out into space at night. Overcast clouds reflect some of that radiant heat back down to the surface. Clear nights are always cooler and cool down much faster than overcast nights. That moisture has to go somewhere, so it sticks to stuff as fr...

Does anyone even read anything reliable?

Ukrainians are already on the ground. Looks like Iranian AIB has invited interested parties to participate.

Re: Time is of the essence

I was wondering if you signed a contract with a training bond that is due in full if you leave within 0 - 24 months, should you re-pay only half the amount to the employer after 1 year? It should be pro-rated? Is it fair? It looks like that might be the case. Read this decision: http://canlii.ca/t/...

Re: Time is of the essence

"Bond" is a pretty general term for a contract of sorts. Lots of poorly written, dubious contracts our there, not all contracts are enforceable. Yeah, ok. http://canlii.ca/t/7c70 Some contracts are valid, some are not. All I'm saying don't rush to pay because they are pressuring you - "Time is of t...

Re: Boeing Systemic Problems Continue

To be perfectly correct, the MAX was dynamically neutral at rear C of G, low weights at a high alpha (angle of attack, i.e. near the stall). The certification requirement is for a positive stability, in other words the nose of the aircraft falling naturally away from a stall angle of attack. MCAS i...

Re: No bounce landing

That’s a fair point.
Defining a stall via stick position is not correct.
I was talking more among the lines of what pilots have readily available to them in the cockpit to determine how close they are to a stall.

Re: No bounce landing

I’d disagree. Airplane would stall at roughly the same stick/control column position most of the time. So if you find yourself pulling hard back on the controls you should know that you are close to the stall. Following that traing of logic, if full aft position of the controls equals "stall", why ...

Re: No bounce landing

Would stick/control column deflection be a good enough indicator? If you re-read some of my earlier post, stick/control column can be used as a stall definition. That is a terrible stall definition. I can be stalled or unstalled at any control column position/deflection. It highly depends on the co...

Re: No bounce landing

I did some analysis of the video, and it looks like the aircraft was pretty much stalled on final approach. I extracted five frames at -2 seconds, -1.5 seconds, -1 second, -0.5 seconds and at impact, and rotated and superimposed them to match the horizons: overlay.jpg Then I was able to create a co...

Re: Minimum rest in the 703 world

This is great, thank you. I've seen 720.21 before and that's what I was referring to in this post and what the company tries to get around. I haven't seen R740.21 or S740.21 before. Can I ask how you found them? I'm good at finding CARs, but those (I'm assuming the standards?) are less obvious to m...

Re: Minimum rest in the 703 world

If you are on reserve then the operator must provide a way for you to get 8 hours of sleep and this way must be documented in the COM. Flight Crew Members on Reserve 700.21 (1) An air operator shall provide flight crew members on reserve, within each 24-hour period, with a rest period that meets the...

Re: Halifax crash report coming Thursday

Normally, I'd agree, but the crew crashed a plane. MDA is MDA, and it seems that they broke it. Having the context of the audio is powerful and should shed a lot of light on exactly how this went down. They know it would be damning (as it should be), hence the resistance. I support my fellow airlin...

Re: Info Request: Hearing Loss - DHC-2 Beaver & DHC-3 Otter

I considered that, but after reading a critique of the Clarity Aloft I am not certain if that is as useful as it sounds. It seems that earplugs do not provide the same protection as ear muffs/a passive headset because vibrations still reach the ear with ear plugs whereas they are absorbed/blocked b...

Re: Info Request: Hearing Loss - DHC-2 Beaver & DHC-3 Otter

I have used a Telex 50D in Twin Otters, but not Beavers or Otters. It is an older headset, clunky, heavy, and I do not think the ANR is as good as the newer headsets, but it is comparable to a passive David Clark without power. My experience with their customer service has been bearable but not gre...

The goal of editing my posts is to allow this thread to return to some form of discussion regarding Air Canada pay, versus Corporate vs Air Canada, in the hopes of halting the circular arguments.
That's too bad. It was a very interesting insight even though some people disagreed.
