Re: Canadian pilot feared dead in Guyana crash
Actually, unlike any accident investigation in Canada, it seems that they are releasing preliminary information about the accident, and it appears to have been caused by a load shift: http://www.inewsguyana.com/crashed-aircraft-airline-rebuffs-suspicions-of-overload-concerns-abound-emergency-locator...

Are you sure you need a credit card number? According to articles on apple.com you can set up an itunes account without using a credit card. Just choose 'None' as the payment type: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2534 As for the security: Microsoft is just as much in bed with the NSA as Apple. I would...

Re: Air Canada Rouge to expand to Vancouver, Calgary
I just had a look at their website, and they say the seat pitch is 29in! Transat, Westjet and Air Canada (even Jazz) all have 31-32in pitch or higher. Those extra 3 inches make a hell of a difference if you're tall, especially if you're in the sardine can for 8+ hours!

Re: Sunglasses for flying
Polarization not recommended: https://www.faa.gov/pilots/safety/pilotsafetybrochures/media/sunglasses.pdf Ya The FAA basically said what I said about some windshields. My machine is mostly old school gauges so no issue with reading the computer screen instruments, however I do have a Garmin 430 and...

Re: This will make your heart thump :
Seems kind of a ridiculous movie. Mayday is much more interesting. I'd suggest watching the episode where they manhandle a 747 with a hard-over rudder back to Anchorage for 2 hours, then land the thing without a scratch. Amazing stuff! Then for comparison watch the idiots who crash their turboprop i...

CRA is terrific. I guess we all need to be thankful they are not the IRS who has much more power. I asked my wife her opinion because this, You will need a CRA form T2200 signed by your employer stating that you were required to supply a headset to perform your duties. Looks legit to me. I'm going ...

Re: How long to talk to a human?
There is actually a way to get better customer service from AC. What you do is set up a corporate account...you then get a separate phone number where you can speak to a human being instantly (unlike the lowly plebs). Also you get an online account allowing you to change your flights online without ...

Re: STC for Mogas
Just remember if anything happens to your plane and you are operating outside the specified flight restrictions (5500ft and 24 degrees OAT) your insurance will most likely be void and you could be subject to penilties from TC I don't think that is an issue: "The flight envelope restriction of 6000f...

Re: STC for Mogas
Vapour lock is less of a problem with high wing, than low wing, esp is the fuel line is routed past something warm. I never had a problem with vapour lock, up to 11000ft. The only thing you need to be careful about is not using winter autofuel in summer. Also it's probably a good idea to occasional...

Re: NT Air King Air Accident - Pilot Discussion Thread
Also the report says "A complete preflight inspection of the aircraft was not conducted" (the pilot spent "2 minutes" before pulling the plane out of the hangar). I think there was a discussion a while ago about the difficulty in checking the oil caps on a king air. However it seems that this pilot ...

Re: STC for Mogas
cap41 is correct...no cost or STC required for a 150 - read TP10737 as suggested by CS. All you need to do is put the required entries in the various logbooks, stick on the required decals, and you're good to go. Main thing you need to be careful about is always checking the fuel for alcohol, which ...

Re: Passport question re: travel to UK
It sound entirely plausible to me that they'd turn him away. When you arrive from Canada, expect to be given a six month visitors visa. If your passport isn't valid for at least six months from the date of arrival you can't be given a six month visa. I don't know if Immigration is able to make an e...

"If anyone is doing a night rating on the west coast make sure to get your instructor to take you to Campbell River (CYBL). That is one smokin' black hole at night." Re: Tindi DHC-7 Zero/Zero Landing
This whole making things worse idea is not making sense to me. An arcing windshield is obviously shorting somewhere, so 1) heat probably wont be applied if left on, and 2) if left on what's to stop it from starting a fire behind the panel once the connecting wires burn out? Its not like they could ...

Re: I cant believe they allow me to do this!
I only have a handful of night hours, but I've still been caught out a few times in Alberta when unforecast fog appeared. What I don't understand is why people fly in crappy conditions that have been forecast for days ahead. Right now there is a cessna 172 belonging to a nearby flying club flying ov...
