Re: Seaplanes at Night
All that is required to light an aerodrome at night is parallel lines not less than 420M long of reflectors, and a single white light at each end. This would make it legal to operate, but its still stupid.

Re: Canada to mandate vaccination for all airline workers
Operating a vehicle is my right, how dare anyone say I have to have a document ( licence ) that allows me to do so!!!!!!!! Actually it isn't. And under our shitty excuse for a charter, all your other rights fall under the reasonable exception(article 1) The Politico's are the ones that decide what ...

Re: Caravan Trys to Eat Otter Tail on Saltspring
Looks like there was a second but much gentler collision after the Caravan's tail swung out. Yeah saw that too, meanwhile as both guys are running in holy F#$% mode it appears the engine was still running and began spooling back up while both heads were down at the front of the float. Luckily the p...

What legalities? His residence is irrelevant, he should never been in an airplane without simultaneously being in handcuffs again.

Re: French Lawmakers Approve a Ban on Short Domestic Flights
Long haul will be replaced by rockets in our lifetime. The concept is already in place, less than 2 hours gate to gate anywhere on the planet. Short haul will be replaced by rapid ground transport. Pop and chips will always fly. Maybe drones though.

Re: Charge for processing of medical certificate
Its a fee that stems from the pre-computer days when they actually had to do something. I never pay it. Sometimes it goes to collections, and dies there as they have no further followup. It has no bearing on my credit rating. . Sometimes they steal it from my tax return. I'm not going out of my way ...

Re: BC harbours, two blade props
unrelated to floatplanes, but there is a mod for the BN2 islander to take it from a 2 blade to a 4 blade, specifically for noise reduction, mainly in Europe but the STC exists in Canada as well - might give you something for your debate.

Re: Blackshape 100 accident
No knowledge if this is what happened, but a steep climbing turn with an engine failure could lead to a spin before the pilot reacts. That close to the ground, the only steep climbing turn one should be doing is after a low pass at high knots... A low approach with a battle break. When your excess ...

Re: Crash Site Near CYPC?
The crash site is in the Tuktuk Nogait National Park, and landings are prohibited. I flew over the site the other day all that was visible was the empennage and one wing tip, although some may have been buried in snow. Unfortunately none of my photos turned out.

Re: Blackshape 100 accident
Unconfirmed reports of an engine failure. And now confirmed. Sad... I can't think of a reason why an engine failure should cause a vertical descent into the ground. Fly the plane until it stops moving. No knowledge if this is what happened, but a steep climbing turn with an engine failure could lea...

Re: Landing at night before the lighted displaced threshold
The airport I fly at has a displaced threshold at night by lighting. I believe this is to account for a forest area that acts as a black hole on short final. My question, is it “illegal” to land and touchdown before the lighted threshold at night? On winter nights with the moon you can clearly see ...

Re: FedEx quietly begin single-pilot tests - ATR 42
Let me expand on that. Pilots now are not significantly better than pilots 20 or 30 years ago were. Technology, on the other hand, is vastly more advanced. There is no reason to think that technology won't continue to improve, and there is no reason to think that pilot abilities will improve any mor...

Re: FedEx quietly begin single-pilot tests - ATR 42
Most accidents have the pilot as a contributing factor. Pilots are the weakest link. They fail on a rate at least equal to any other component. Either they fail to respond appropriately to a situation, make decisions that get them in over their head, or deliberately crash. We'll see completely pilot...

Re: Left or Right seat
Expand on this. There is no requirement for the PIC to even BE in a seat. At my 705 operator on the 737, we do augmented flights. The crew consists of 2 Captains and one F/O. The F/O is never allowed to sit in the left seat, but both Captains may sit in the right seat (with the other Captain in the...
