Re: 406 ELT's Mandated In Canada?
July 1, 2007. All aeroplanes will have to be in compliance two years after the date the regulations were promulgated, namely, July 1, 2009. So obviously this will include homebuilt airplanes. So much for affordable private flying. Homebuilt or certified, the hit is the same. Well, actually at least...

Re: 406 ELT's Mandated In Canada?
Just a few thoughts on the thread this afternoon. First I'm looking at the discussion as a private owner who cannot pass on the cost of operation to a customer, not as a commercial user (passenger) or operator. Quote by Pavese: “As an aircraft owner I'm not looking forward to a Canada-only mandated ...

Re: 406 ELT's Mandated In Canada?
Where is this issue now? More on the subject at: http://copanational.org/non-members/body_files/Transport%20Canada%20effectively%20mandates%20406%20ELTs.htm Sounds like the interested parties had a work-around agreed upon but were torpedoed by DND. "Although consensus was achieved at a November 200...

Re: 9200 Reasons/Posts
I drop in on various forums, each one has it's own subtle flavor and this one is no exception. I DO like the Canadian perspective and it's interesting to see that the demographic generally appears to be working pilots vs recreational, a bit more real world. You can see from my post total here I do m...

Re: Isle of Man TT
The TT is the last great race left, all the others going by the wayside over the past few decades. The TT has a whole variety of divisions, from stock bikes to Superbikes. Some of the world's greatest riders used to compete in it, be great to go an watch. stl Just not the same without Joey Dunlop t...

Just got up off the floor... An account of a young instructor at Peninsulair in the '70's. Very funny stuff.
Seconded. He usually turns out one a year and it magically turns up under the Christmas tree.

Skunkworks, Ben R Rich, Leo Janos Like the review says, a great story about the goings on in Lockeed's Skunkworks under Kelly Johnson. http://www.amazon.ca/Skunk-Works-Ben-R-Rich/dp/0316743003 Lockheed's Advanced Development Project has set standards for the aerospace industry for half a century. Re: The RCMP has a Piaggio?
Speaking of Piaggios, I was surprised to see the RCMP has a P180 based in Ottawa. It really doesn't seem to match the rest of the fleet - does anyone know how it is working out? What do they use it for? Futuristic ship but that's not what the maintenance guys call it, their pet name is "the pig". D...

I'm sure the school will understand your problem - they have come across this situation before. If you don't end up with a "light" instructor, you'll just have to buy gas on the few longer flights you'll do. It''s all good experience anyway. Check out gas prices before you go. It's all part of trai...

What to do? Instructors & Freelancers & Etc.
I've been working on my PPL with a flying club/school and my own 152 and so far so good. So now my instructor has gotten a "real" job and is moving on (and good for her, she's really good and deserves it!) but I don't have really good "chemistry" with the present part timer and the new full timer I ...

There is a ton of confusion and misinformation out there on this topic, some of it even in in the posts above! fixorfukit is closest to the mark. OK from one who has actually done this recently.........and your mileage may vary dependent on your Minister's Delegate (MD-M) and your aircraft......this...

Re: Badmouthing Taildraggers
Here's my rant du jour.... I was at the flying club a couple of days ago talking to the proud new owner of a beautiful 1947 Cessna 140... SNIP! . I hope to see him this summer at all the fly-ins and $100 hamburger joints in the region. OK, rant over.... let the "flame-mail" begin... Luscombe, that ...

Nope they are not. Closest spots for you would be Waterville itself or Truro Flying Club, a great flying club I may add. Post 1, just joined the party! I'll second the vote for the TFC, good people & 3 big wide runways, perfect for newbies  The "Waterville" you were asking about is Scotia Fli...
