Re: Markham Airport . . . Buttonvilles replacement???
I like the concept, but dont think it would work, and heres why. For starters, Bombardier is a big player in this country. Toss them out of Downsview and you can be sure they'll send their other manufacturing jobs in Ontario (Thunder Bay..) down to Mexico. Agreed however that downsview sits on PRIME...

Re: Markham Airport . . . Buttonvilles replacement???
To the original poster. While yes, the owners of that land do have deep pockets, given the state of the airport as is and some of the feedback from others on here, I question their committment to the aviation industry and therefore to put any money towards development. Now I hope that somewhere, som...

CYKZ - Where will you relocate?
Not wanting to beat this topic to death but as a pilot based in the GTA, just wondering....
Assuming no other major airport development takes place in the GTA. Where do you plan on moving to once Buttonville is shut?

Beech Bonanza Down - Seneca College
Just flashed on CP24.
No details yet, other than the station reporting a "Beech 33" is down in the 407 and ??? area. Sounded like the eastern part of the GTA. Reported that 3 people were on board. No details on their condition.
Anyone have additional details?

Re: Electric C172 first test flight
If the aircraft perform as expected, for an FTU you could recover the installation cost in as little as 2 years which is a very quick payback period (Math on that: $50/hr in savings of electric power vs fuel) times 500 hours per year of airtime at an FTU, = $25,000 savings per year. Install cost is ...

Is this the new reality for private airports? All the owners selling out to ride off into the sunset !?
Seems like the only facilities remaining will be publicly owned facilities...

Just thought I'd add this bit of info and question to the thread. Here's my situation. I co-own a Piper Warrior with 3 other individuals. They all just recently obtained their PPL. I am (trying to) train for PPL. Insurancewise - no problem. We are working with a freelancer (Class 2) Heres where I'm ...

Re: 407 Landing?
The plane almost hit the GOBUS, so it was a near tragedy. I would like to have a clear understanding of the cause of the engine failure from the investigation, one accident after another out of Buttonville these days, and I live at the 407 and Markham (Northeast corner), and with the increase incid...

Re: The Light-Sport Advantage?
From a cost/performance perspective, LSA is purely a marketing gimmick in the US. There is no advantage to it, other than what has been stated above by BPF. Rich old guys can still fly around without potentially losing their medicals. One of the goals of LSA was originally to have a MAX price of $10...

Re: Request for opinions on the current state of GA
To my second point about having to save... and before I get blasted by boomers... Saving for school/house/retirement isn't the problem per se, the problem is: a.) education costs have sky rocketed over the last decade and continue to do so. Additionally, people must remain in school longer (minimum ...

Re: Request for opinions on the current state of GA
I would say the #1 contributing factor to the decline is cost. Additionally, young people have more which they need to save for that the boomer generation didnt. Post-secondary education, saving for a house (difficult when you have school loans), then saving for your own retirement, then putting asi...

Re: C-GENG Cessna 414 departs YKZ missing nr Nova Scotia . .
The Globe and Mail reported the plane was purchased by a CEO of a Calgary based energy company who picked up the plane, however hired an experienced pilot to fly him to N.S. The plane is actually still listed on APEX Aviation's website as someone has already posted. Someone mentioned there were repo...
