Re: CC150 Polaris scrapped

"In 2019...plane was put out of commission for nearly a year-and-a-half after it rolled away and collided with a hangar wall at CFB Trenton, causing $11 million in damage to its nose and an engine." You'd think chocks would be on the top of everyone's mind. It's not like they got pushed out of the w...

Re: Is this what a Union feels like?

Unless you are working or have worked at WestJet over the past few years, you have no idea how significant the gains were in the recent contract. Money was a relatively small part of it. Good point. My bad Westjet did an amazing job killing the cancer Swoop Those pilots really did show incredible s...

Re: Article on Porter's expansion and pilot supply in general

The article acknowledges that there aren't enough pilots for every airline to grow and succeed. The loser is the one who nickel and dimes their pilots and pisses them off. Porter management acknowledged this in that article and says they're doing what they can do make sure it doesn't happen to them....

Re: "We want our pilots to be entirely free from any financial consideration when they take a safety-related decisionWes

I have had to argue with Ops quite a bit. Apparently they were trained not to trust pilots...probably about the only training they received. Fortunately not WJ or any major airline, but it still does happen in the "705 lite" world today. I've also had to explain to a CP why I made a decision, but ce...

Somebody else offered him more money?

30 turboprops expanding to a fleet of 130 mostly jets is maybe out of his element and expertise?

Not always negative.

Re: Using Radios effectively for situational awareness.

Most under stated comment in this whole thread! How is one to learn where other traffic is when all that happens is talking. Radios is 90% listening. The number of times I encounter someone who makes a 126.7 broadcast, then immediately switch to another frequency. I'm busy trying to sort out the con...

Re: Keewatin PC-24

I watched a PC-12 take off with icicles hanging off the aileron. Pilot broke off SOME of them before hoping in and starting up. As they taxiied out or sight in the snow storm, I assumed they were headed back to their ramp. Quite surprised (for 2 reasons) when I saw them airborne a few minutes later....

Re: So Jazz pilots will go from the lowest paid to the lowest paid?

A rising tide floats all boats. If not directly than certainly indirectly. WJ raised their rates and that puts pressure on AC. That ALSO puts pressure on all the regional and northern 705 operators that WJ and AC hire from. So the northern 705s up their pay trying to keep Pilots. Now very few are in...

Re: Comox WestJet + RCAF

The picture shows the stopped 737 nosewheels straddling the yellow taxi line. I think the RCAF is probably going to own this one because they parked the CC130 inside the maneuvering area for the civil terminal ramp. “I was on the centreline, so it was not my fault.” I have never driven a 737...

Re: New Payscale

What is the schedule like on that pay? Rotational schedules in 703/704 world (14/14 or 7/7) usually mean working 12 out of every every 28 days or about 13-14 days per calendar month. Granted Porter pilots aren't deicing their own King Air in North Fort Lake, but schedule is an important part of the ...

Re: Approx Net Pay - First Year Q400 Captain

Makes sense for a Encore/Jazz captain with a couple years up the pay scale to want a similar pay level in another job flying a similar airplane on similar routes. Whether the airline (Porter in this case) can offer it is a different question. It would sure be nice if we could all get industry years ...

I guess the most fatiguing job in our industry doesn't need fatigue protections

Back and forth across the clock, constant on call after min rest. Medevac operators must have a strong lobby group.

Re: ATAC Requests Gov't Suspend Duty Regs

Almost, but we're forgetting that flights conducted VFR don't need to care about leg count, 700.28(9). Start at 6am, that's a 12 hr day for 1 leg or 20 legs if they're all VFR. Quite reasonable I'd say. In glad the industry lobby group struggles with reading comprehension as well as ignoring the CAR...

Lol so many disgruntled pilots who instead of using facts just called names. Told you don’t deserve a raise. All you need to do is show me why economically within The financials you need significant raises. Our market doesn’t support it. I’ve shown you and read airline financials and torn them apar...

Re: Recent WestJet ALPA video for all pilots

The wealth gap is growing. Executive salary is significantly higher in relation to the front line worker than it used to be. Does an airline CEO really need to make 100x more than an airline pilot? Does a grocery store CEO really need to make 250x more than a stock boy? Does an oil company CEO need ...

Re: PC-12 Engine Failure Glide to Runway

The issue with the King Air is the private operators in the US. Got a big bank account? Here, have a King Air. Twins are much more difficult to handle with an engine out than a single. Run a shutdown drill, that one probably hasn't practiced in over a year, while wrestling a plane that's trying to r...

Yes and no. Doing the same work? Porter should pay their E2 pilots more than Q400 pilots. Or is this a Dash8-100 flying around with the pilots unloading it and spraying the ice off themselves? Get "pilot pay" plus ramp pay plus deice crew pay, plus fuel tech pay, plus check-in agent pay. Northern p...

Re: Captains of the North, what make you stay?

From my experience the majority of the northern lifers stay for many reasons, and most of the time it’s not financial and not by choice. My experience has been the opposite. Many northern lifers I know never even applied to southern airlines. They stay for the lifestyle the north offers. That lifes...
