Re: Alberta to Hawaii in a 737????
Just out of curiosity, does any WJetter know off the top of their head what that max altitude is on a 737-700 on one engine at max gross weight? Assume an average temp and such of course. We had a 332 blow an engine last week, required immediate descent to FL200, wondered what a 737 was like. 1st, ...

Maybe we should pass new regulations forcing a minimum age difference of 2 decades in the flight deck!

I'm no pineapple pilot, but if I recall correctly the APU only needs to run for the ETOPS segment, which is somewhere over the Pacific ocean. And, the APU is certified to start at FL410 if it needs to.

There was also no way to avoid the Jetstream either. The winds were 130+ knots right from FL190 up to FL410.

I thought the tories wouldn't risk triggering an election over the gun registry? Or is an election not a risk here?

I find it very ironic, given that "Sully" has been on a spree of promoting higher pay for better quality personnel in the aviation department, only to have 2 of us go on a rampage like this and clutter it all over the media putting us all in a bad light... Not to mention the ATL incident on a taxiw...

Re: Air Canada vs Westjet
How much will the WS fleet actually grow when those 54 planes come online? Surely they will be parting with some planes by then? Didn't their first -700's come in 8 years ago already? Good question. I have no idea, but I doubt we have any planes close to retirement, even in the next 8 years. I just...

I think it depends on your tax bracket. We get taxed on the ESP we buy, and I think we get taxed on the company's portion as well.

Re: Pilots resign after Emirates A340-500 accident
V1 is the 'go' or 'no go' decision speed. It's your last chance to stay on the ground and deal with a problem without going off the end of the runway. Many factors contribute to the value of V1. For instance, on a slippery runway, V1 could be 20 kts lower than Vr due to increased stopping distance r...
