Re: C337 electrical problem from hell
Excellent. It is amazing how much trouble poor connections can cause... that's why I love jumper wires--just not in flight. Yes, I was gong to say, really have a good go at making sure the engines, alternators and regulator are getting a good ground. I have seen some very mysterious charging proble...

Re: If you had 2 weeks gas money and a 185 on straight float
Um...yes. In the 60 years since your father was here, the river has done a bit of eroding of that beach, and in 1981 a large dike was built along most of the riverfront, to prevent flooding when the river breaks. It was built high enough that town has not flooded since. The only possible place to b...

Re: "Ford" wrenches
The other thing about the wave jaw that might have just been almost a 'happy accident' is, the way that wire is left after you remove the tool, it's perfectly pre-sculpted (?) for the inevitable additional twist or two. Hard to explain without demonstrating but in the normal serrated jaws, the wire ...

Re: "Ford" wrenches
Alloy, On the note of the Ford wrenches, I have seen them in mech's tool boxes. I've got an ancient set in my shop. Well suited to square nuts, in days when no regular guy could afford a proper set of wrenches. I love the Knipex, personally. You can't squeeze anything with the Ford wrenches and they...

Best Masking Tape?
Hey All, Just looking for advice on the latest and greatest masking tape for pulling straight lines on airframes with universal rivets. I have been using 3M green painter's tape but am a little frustrated with the inevitable bleed-through. Got some scuff n' shoot touch up work to do this spring and ...

Re: Amateur Pilot Floatplane Options
It's your engine, run'er your way. I've been at this over 40 years, kinda got a half-assed idea what I'm doing. I'm a total neophyte, but I have this weird trick that works pretty good for me. When I'm established at the power settings I want, I pull the red knob back smoothly until the engine runs...

12 GPH = 45.5 liters / per hour
Mogas, where I'm at can be bought for around $1.50 / L or Av at about 1.80 / L
that's 69.00 - $82.00 an hour.
SFA really..

Re: Amateur Pilot Floatplane Options
But then you’d be carbureted and underpowered. The Utva has a 4000lb+ gross. When we flew it on floats it was one hell of a performer, the power, the leading edge slots, the drooping ailerons, it really made for a heck of a STOL machine, climbs like a homesick angel. How was the engine? No troubles...
