Re: Pilot unity

You are right. We must have gender neutrality.. I am not good at posting pictures...anybody can help out by posting a picture of man boobs? That aught to set the picture balance to gender neutral. Crunch, I shall give you the last word, and so refraim from another post on this thread...allow you to...

Re: Favourite Places to Fly To In Canada?

Check ahead for avgas, especially in the smaller and/or northern areas. Had a co-worker get caught once when he called ahead to find out about fuel availability and was told that they sold avgas by the drum. He planned accordingly so he could upload the entire drum (they didn't sell partial drums), ...

Re: WestJet and Sunwing ground collision - YYZ

Aren't you guys arguing apples and oranges? Looks to me like one of you is arguing against saying in which direction to evacuate in the pre-flight briefing, and the other is arguing for saying in which direction to evacuate after the event has occurred....

Re: PA-34 RTO @ YPK-What happened

I'd like to hear a good reason for that policy, that is in the public interest. I'm not saying it's in the public's interest, nor, for that matter, that it's a policy anywhere. What I'm saying is that you can't seriously expect anyone in the know to speak publicly at this stage. It's fine to say no...

Re: PA-34 RTO @ YPK-What happened

How can pilots learn from others mistakes / mechanical problems if flight schools keep these events a secret? You're not serious...? Not keeping it a secret means full disclosure to TC, TSB, and their lawyers, not posting on a public forum Yeah, it'd be interesting and educational to know what happ...

"Such are the times we live in, with our ultra-feminist-worshipping culture, I suppose. All good as long as no one's feelings get hurt, right?" Re: T.c. phone numbers

Varies greatly by region and possibly by the luck of the draw as to who's on. I had an urgent question come up after noon on the day before a holiday week-end, but fortunately, since I live on the east coast all the other TC offices are earlier. After calling all the local numbers I could think of, ...

Re: Encore lands without clearance, off frequency.

Amazing how when one airline crew does it, everybody questions their training, discipline, and company ethic; all while demanding the crew be strung up and fired. A Westjet (Encore) crew does it, and it's a "good learning experience". LOL... and those guys HAD a clearance. Good point - I never did ...

Re: Cliff Diving ....... Alaska Style.

I thought I was gonna puke watching the pilot's eye view.... Haven't decided if that's nerves of steel or just a youngster that hasn't yet figured out the concept of his own mortality. I wonder how many of these guys just don't show up back and base and are found years or decades later in one of tho...

Re: Encore lands without clearance, off frequency.

.... I’ve even asked when the guy beside me had read it back less than 30 seconds before. “Hey man, are we cleared to land?” No harm in asking again just to be safe.... Yep - been there, done that (sometime around 0900 when we'd been flying all night): "He cleared us to land, didn't he?" "I don't k...

Re: Are We Safe?

man if you guys knew of the 400hr(TT) hornet pilots flying around, landing in Inuvik at night in IMC you'd have an aneurism... Or the 500hr QFIs in Moose Jaw. Would I trust myself as a 200hr Cpl pilot flying in challenging conditions? Never. But I would trust a 200hr pilot in a right seat with a re...

Re: Pulling the Chute

Glad that the chute was there to save his life, but it sure looks like he had no clue how to stop the spin and was just trying random control movements. Hard to tell if the aircraft was recoverable since he never did seem to do (and hold) the proper inputs

Re: Electronic logbooks

There was a thread on this subject not too long ago, although I think that was more along the lines of which e-logbook to use. Depends on where you are in your career and how sentimental you are to some extent. I have about 5 or 6 paper logs books, which may somewhat be attributed to my love of book...

Maybe make delivery (else a price reduction) part of the purchase deal...? Even if the previous owner isn't in a position to fly it, the possibility of losing the deal or losing some money may be incentive for them to help you find someone. He must have a purchase agreement already in place since p...

Pretty sure they won't mind moving it by a few days, so long as the reason is the airplane(s) is/are away or I'm away, and not I'll never get my paperwork in order by then... ;) I think I had to move mine due to flying schedule before (but can't recall details due to it being such a non-issue, and a...

Re: What does a pilot look like?

Hey there, thank you so much for the feedback, and some very hilarious pictures! I was wearing a collared shirt and jeans, age late 20's. The CP had slacks and a white shirt/ tie so I immediately knew I was underdressed. Live and learn. Also the guy meant nothing by it I'm sure, I thought it was pr...

I hope it works out for you, but you're right - a wx delay and your work schedule could suffer! Re: 4 Hurt in Plane Crash at Brampton

The PAPI only guarantees clearance for a given distance/angle. I fully support your right to fly any approach you like, day or night, but I’d like to hear why and specifically where you think following the full instrument approach guarantees you obstacle clearance that the PAPI doesn’t. A specific ...

Re: 4 Hurt in Plane Crash at Brampton

I think the steeper approach path in something like a C172 is the better option if you're comfortable with the runway - it's longer and/or it's your home airport and you're used to the approach. Two factors to consider, though, is that if you're approaching steeply, you should be sure you're comfort...
