Re: Which heading for an emergency letdown

If the area below is clear, heading does not matter. Reduce power slightly, don't touch trim, keep needle and ball centred.

Re: Class 1 Flight Instructors—Coastal Pacific Aviation

Interesting point .. Assuming you can get a 30hr week that's a yearly salary in the $90K range. Better than an Encore Captain. What are chances that the Regionals will up their game to attract staff.

So, do we need to invoke the Not Withstanding Clause to settle this?

Just so everyone is on the same page, teaching aerobatics requires an aerobatic instructor rating.

Re: Is spin endorsement in USA valid in Canada

A Canadian CPL allows you to perform all manoeuvres approved in the POH. There are some restrictions, (aerobatics), on what you can do with pax on board.

Re: Should I find a new instructor, or is this a normal first few lessons?

- Instructor often still starts the engine, shuts down engine, does the dead mag check and taxis etc... I've taxi'd briefly and started the engine twice. I have not taken off or landed. The student should be starting engine, shutting down engine and taxiing from an early stage. Landing comes a bit ...

Re: New low in pilot shortage?

Whoa there inverted. Areyou some kind of neo fascist that is against diversity in the pilot pool? That kind of thinking will cause our Prime Minister to break into tears. There is no place in our industry for that type of thinking. Canadians want and expect divesity. It is our strength. All those p...

Re: Good Hands n’ Feet vs. Operational Experience

B208 There’s just no nicer way to describe it, but to people in this business who actually know what they’re doing you are a limited resource. Rockie, It would appear that we have, once again, reached the point in the discussion where your debating skills are no longer up to the task and you resort...

Re: Good Hands n’ Feet vs. Operational Experience

I have written rubrics that evaluate both motor and cognitive skills in great detail. Engineer right? Nope. You're thinking of Headley, (who extends a cordial invitation to come over to ..'s for a chat). Even in a controlled simulator environment no two exercises are the same. By this I assume that...

Re: Good Hands n’ Feet vs. Operational Experience

Pie in the sky B208. You say it can be done so explain in detail, don't refer me to someplace to do it for you. Pick a topic, say severe windshear recovery with established levels of turbulence and vertical shears, and explain in just that one circumstance in objective detail what makes one "good"....

Re: Good Hands n’ Feet vs. Operational Experience

"Candidate spent no more than x number of seconds more than y number of degrees off of centreline during final approach." There are already IFR tolerances and other parameters stipulated. I'm talking about what defines "good", who makes that determination, and what allowances are made for other tha...

Re: Good Hands n’ Feet vs. Operational Experience

We're talking about a surgeon that can't operate a scalpel, a triathlete that can't swim or a writer without any command of their native tongue. Good hands and feet or GTFO of this industry. Define “good” in a way that clearly tells an examiner thumbs up or thumbs down. You give it a shot B208 sinc...

Re: Where to begin

The post I was responding to was post #28 from TheRealMcCoy saying military members get out with their ATPL with less than 1000 hours . Look it up. Plus just what did you think I was referring to when I said "not even a minute"? Does that not sound like flying time, ie "experience"? Look I know you...

Re: Good Hands n’ Feet vs. Operational Experience

A good pilot needs a minimum level in both areas. I'll illustrate this with a few extreme examples; A pilot that can do airshow level formation aerobatics but routinely decides to fly under a heavy rain shaft is eventually going to meet a bad ending. Conversely, a heavy iron driver who has shot appr...

Re: Where to begin

Read all of it very carefully, and show me where DND applicants are granted credits for experience. I never said it did, but you never referenced experience either. Let me refresh your memory as to what you said dude: When I got out Transport Canada gave no let -...for ATPL Licensing Requirements" ...
