Re: Pilots who recently got hired at Air Canada Mainline without going through Air Canada Express, what was your path?
Pilots of Westjet are also welcome to answer. So how strong is the competition to go to these major airlines for those who don't go to Jazz, SkyRegional, Evas, Georgian, (and Encore for WS). Cheers Anything in the past is irrelevant at this point. The new PMA announced a couple of weeks ago redesig...

Re: TSC- This school will take you to the Airlines
Let's go... Everything ever worth having in life doesn't come without a lot of effort. Otherwise everyone else would already have it. You go work two jobs just to pay for flight training. You go to university/college and study all those courses needed to acquire your degree. Then after all that is ...

Re: Which company would you prefer to fly the B1900 at?
This poll is a bit like asking which sexually transmitted disease you'd prefer to contract. There isn't really any answer that appealing. In this day and age a 1900 should not be considered anything more than a stepping stone. The questions should be... What 1900 operator provides the next best opp...

Re: PML reorganization
This feels like it was perfectly choreographed with the regional carriers. It's a win win for AC / Express (1, 2, 3 & 4). They force individuals to stay in low paying jobs for 2 years at the "potential" shot at a job with AC, where they will also pay you 50K a year to fly an Airbus. Eventually, thi...

Re: Which company would you prefer to fly the B1900 at?
Most of those companies would be pretty decent to sit at while waiting for an OTS call from Air Canada. Most of them have 705 planes to move up to as well. Can also make a career as a PASCO Saab captain, Sunwest jet pilot or Wasaya dash captain if AC doesn't call or you don't want to work there. I ...

Re: Which company would you prefer to fly the B1900 at?
Georgian 1900? Many of their flights seem to be cancelled lately when I check the departures boards at T1. The GGN fan club members here must have voted them up. Not pro or con GGN specifically but I am pro Express. And lets call a spade a spade The Beech outperformed the Dash dash classic f...

Re: PML reorganization
Straight from the document Air Canada will value a candidate’s flying experience in a number of ways. Some of the experience deemed desirable includes multi-engine time, experience in a two-crew environment, Pilot in Command time, time on an aircraft with a max ramp weight in excess of 15,000 kg, e...

Re: PML reorganization
So now you have to do 2 years minimum at Express? What was it before? Didn't I read people getting interviews in under a year? Before it was just seniority based, the problem was that a lot of people had their seniority number come up when they were under "ideally" qualified. This led to a higher %...

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
I suppose I am feeling slightly defeated at the moment. I applied long long ago and was put into a pool, (2 years in the pool). I was eventually (finally) given my PIT course date and medical, offered in March 2014; however I had already taken a job with another company and signed a contract. Which...

Re: Let's all apply at Swoop!
Yes the concilliation process should help move things along and get everyone talking at least. The process can certainly take time though. The CIRB simply went back to the existing WJPA contract on the LOA. I'm not sure that's much of a victory for the MEC. Two minor corrections here for the sake o...

Re: PML reorganization
It sounds like they are moving it toward what it should have been in the first place. Hopefully the next round goes smoother for people who are applying for the first time. It sounds like they are moving the goal post...again. I like your optimism. The first round went incredibly smooth for the peo...

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
Nope, 6 weeks for some of the latest guys from video to in person. Patience Doesn't the new Express Carrier Portal and PMA drastically change the game for OTS? I would say it is pretty obvious AC is going all in on filling their Express aircraft with pilots Not so far, OTS still being hired The New...

Re: Swoop Cannibalization of WestJet Routes
Pretty hilarious to see that GS just created a two-tier pay system and there are actually pilots buying it as a good idea. WJ is so flush with cash, that to say that lower wages are "needed" in order to compete with upstarts is laughable at best. The shareholders just want a bigger slice of cake, a...

Re: CommutAir is working on sponsoring Canadian pilots
So let's just add the base pay and sign-on bonus: 36,500 + 22,100 = 58,600 USD or about 75,000 CAD. Taxed less. Lower cost of living. How much do Rouge and Encore pay in year 1, again? But the real value is in the possibility of obtaining citizenship and work up to a major. In a labour market 10x t...

Re: Gregg Saretsky is the modern Frank Lorenzo
You are in la la land if you don't think there's an opportunity for a ULCC in Canada. Is it as big an opportunity as the opportunity WJ had to exploit a void in 1996? Probably not. But it's there and WJ needs to absolutely dominate and control it in order to protect the larger franchise. Take a qui...

Re: Swoop Blacklist
The pay is significantly higher than the Canadian average wage. As it should be. Do you consider yourself an average Canadian or an average pilot? What a dumb statement. The majority of Canadians don't assume hundreds of millions if not billions of dollars of liability every time they push the TOGA...
