Re: ADS-B
I wonder if by the time it's mandated in Canada, someone might make some kind of ADS-B repeater for a top antenna installation that would just retransmit the signal from the bottom antenna... might make an upgrade path a lot more feasible for people who already have a bottom-mounted ADS-B transpond...

non-precision. definition hasn't changed. only precision sat based approach is a GLS approach, however there are none in Canada. they have them in the UK and some airports in the US, possibly elsewhere.

Re: Joining downwind at CYCD
feel free to join however you want at an MF or any other uncontrolled field. Decision is yours if its safe or not. That being said, it's advisable to join a standard traffic pattern at an uncontrolled field (and you could be violated for causing an unsafe situation especially if there's other traffi...

Don't forget that Keith used to sell his "aviation mentorship services" on Avcanada before he got banned. Probably wasn't a good resume padder and he got PFO'd from big red.

Can't get a type rating for a type that doesn't exist in Canada, unfortunately.

I have my doubts about that. They can't fill 74 out of the island for takeoff performance issues in the summer. I don't see why they'd go to 78 New seats are lighter (carbon fiber), apparently TOW is actually lower with 4 extra standard males than with 74 old seats. I doubt they will be more comfor...

It's Air Nun. Have to pay them a hefty cash bond to work there, that should say enough.

That's why it's called theatrical security or the illusion of security. I get most of my crap confiscated on the return trip, be it toothpaste, or otherwise. One of my coworkers (non pilot) has a back pack that he uses for carry-on. One day they found a .22LR (small rim fire bullet) in his bag, the...

Re: TC to FAA Conversion
I would recommend the Gleim online course. It will set you up nicely for both the Commercial Conversion Exam and the IFR Conversion Exam. Both exams are 40 questions. You also have to complete a form giving the FAA authorization to have your license credentials verified by Transport Canada. Once ev...

Porter has a base in HZ, you could probably hold it as a new hire or within 2-6 months, but its very senior, expect a long time on reserve.

Have you tried a flying club in your area? I'm not even sure you could legally rent a private aircraft. Sure, if your "friend" let you "borrow" their plane and you covered the "expenses" AND were insured on the aircraft you could. it's perfectly legal, people do it all the time. http://m.flyblockti...

Re: IFR clearance on the ground at Qikiqtarjuaq?
If you're making the trip across the Atlantic in a light piston single, I'd suggest contacting someone who has made the trip before, particularly an experienced ferry pilot. while the airspace and IFR procedures are relatively the same in Canada and the US, they can be vastly different in Europe, es...

I don't have a Canada flight supplement handy, but you can call the relevant Center (I believe it's Edmonton) by satphone (their non toll free numbers and satphone short codes are listed). Just an FYI, you won't be able to receive a clearance at YVM since it's uncontrolled airspace below FL230. Stan...

Insurance Check Out Form
Does anyone have a copy of a checkout form they use for insurance purposes or at least areas on the form that the insurance company may look for? I've been asked to complete a checkout for another pilot on a Cessna I fly regularly, but other than flight school forms, I can't find any sort of example...
