Re: Skylease Cargo 747 Runway Overrun YHZ Nov 7 2018
Speaking about fuel capacity, I wonder what the runway length at Lae was, and the "usuable" runway length at Howland? Coud she have refueled at Howland, and with the weight, taken off? Tom You might want to tell them that you are now talking about Amelia Earhart. Quite a jump from Halifax to Howlan...

Re: Anybody going to a ski/ice fly-in this year?
Well, if you don't want to fly all the way to Oshkosh, there is a closer fly-in the same day. The Oak Hills Flying Club at Stirling, CPJ5, is having a Winter fly-in on 9 Feb. 2300' runway will be groomed and there is a 1600' X 80' ski strip beside it. Fuel is available (Cash only unfortunately) and ...

Re: Accident Analysis - Single Point Failure
I couldn't say for sure; I have not tried it. Definitely not a viable flight instrument but, given only minor acceleration forces, it may help a pilot to keep their wings level.

Re: Accident Analysis - Single Point Failure
This was a very sad event and one that may not have been preventable given the lack of mechanical problems prior to IMC entry and the pilot's inability to control the aircraft without an AI. It is also VERY easy to sit here drinking my second coffee of the morning and expound on exactly what this pi...

Re: Plane crash at Sechelt airport
These are always the most difficult accident reports; we have some information on what MAY have happened but no clear cause. When reading an accident report, my interest is always to determine what I can learn fron the unfortunate experience of the pilot involved. In this case, what do I learn? I un...

Re: COPA for Kids pilots now require police check
Precisely. So, why not attempt to prevent these situations with a background check? Why not prevent/protect COPA, and other organizations from lawsuits, because they didn't provide "adequate checks"? That's exactly what this is trying to do. I can offer you insurance to protect your kids! For a one...

Re: MERGED power curve / floats posts
There is nothing wrong with your technique especially in that it is what you are most comfortable with. I can't remember if I ever used the slip on approach method as my teachers taught me the crab method and pointed out how natural crabbing s as you are flying with the controls balanced and not si...

Re: external load on C172 on floats - porta bote
I've carried these before and they are almost undetectable with respect to aircraft performance. Almost! - Firstly, make sure you mount it with the open side (The top of the boat.) facing down. If you don't, it fills up with water when you take off. Secondly, the older aluminum ones work well; the n...

Re: Trenton Flyover
The 7 days is for PPR to land there. For overflights, it is just Class D airspace like any other. They usually want you to follow one of the VFR transit routes that are listed in the CFS so that is how they will clear you through the zone. (Via Frankford to the North and via Consecon to the South.) ...

Original Beaver test flight with Russ Bannock had an engine failure after takeoff, He landed it deadstick without incident. All in a days work Do you happen to have a reference for that? Re: Risky or cleaver?
An excellent display of skill and experience operating on the edge of what can be safely done. I might also add that it was an excellent display of airmanship and pilot decision making on the part of those pilots who decided to turn back even though Delta made it in and out. No measuring contests he...
