Re: How difficult is it to become an RCAF pilot?

The pension amounts to 2% of your annual salary (averaged over your best 5 years) for every year you serve. If you serve more than 25 years (regular force) then you can collect the pension as soon as you get out. If leave after less than 25 years you can only start to collect the pension when you re...

Re: Toronto Hospital 70% Unvaccinated

These numbers seem quite negligible to me. Those old folks were gonna die. Sorry. Old folks die. Scale down and let’s be conservative and say 1000 extra people died. Let’s be crazy and say 10,000 died. Are you insane? Are you on drugs? Are you delusional? Are we really arguing over the lockdown and...

Re: Toronto Hospital 70% Unvaccinated

Below the age of 70, it is no more dangerous than the flu and in younger people, actually has less of a mortality rate. In the two years leading up to the start of covid (2018-2019) in Canada there were 400-600 deaths from influenza (about 1200 from all acute respiratory infections) in the 60-69 ag...

Re: Large Ivermectin study shows it works

Interesting read, thanks for posting the study. Observational studies, while not as good as RCTs, shouldn't be dismissed as meritless. However, care should be taken in interpreting their results, especially if it contradicts those of RCTs. On first read there were a few things than jumped out at me ...

Re: Toronto Hospital 70% Unvaccinated

I wouldn't say taking the face value statistics from the ICU is crude, it's simply unadjusted or interpreted, because of the fact that it simply "is". It's the end result. There is no prediction or bias in the sample group. It encompasses everyone in the population from neonatal units to geriatrics...

Re: Toronto Hospital 70% Unvaccinated

DanWEC - your crude analysis assumes that the vaccinated and unvaccinated populations are otherwise the same, but they are not. The percentage of people who are vaccinated is significantly lower amongst the younger age groups, which means an unvaccinated person is significantly more likely to be in ...

Re: Poll, booster vs drug treatment

That data is about 3 weeks old. It will be interesting to see the update. I suspect it will show a significant increase in the vaccinated ending up in ICUs. (I think the vaccines are far more "leaky" than advertised, and I don't think the pharma companies and governments were fully transparent in t...

Re: Trevor Jacob "staged" plane crash

I can't speak on behalf of others, but I'm not defending his actions as I hate seeing a good aircraft destroyed for entertainment. I am, however, comparing this situation to that of other entertainers that wreck things on purpose for entertainment. Every time that the Top Gear crew rolls a vehicle o...

Re: Trevor Jacob "staged" plane crash

I agree with photofly on this one; calling for jail time for an incident like this is totally excessive. I think the guy is an asshat for wrecking a perfectly good airplane, but that's because I'm part of the general aviation community and I like airplanes. I recognize, however, that us getting outr...

Re: The hangar near Victoria BC

Victoria flying club does not have any space in their shared hangar unfortunately. There is a waiting list. They are planning to build a roof over some of their outdoor spots to make a "half hangar" at some point. There is a large hangar for sale on the east end, but unless you have $2Mil kicking ar...

Re: Flight Time Interpretation

Not sure if I’m allowed to link to other forums but there has been a long term discussion concerning this very thing in helicopters. Basically, after much back and forth with TC, including rescinding a document clearly defining it, (I believe!) it means that once you leave the ground for the flight...

The guy to talk to would be Misha Gelb at BC helicopters in Abbotsford, as he runs a small fleet for instructing including two of these. He also posts a lot of YouTube as pilotyellow including some reviews of the machines be flies so that may be useful. His general consensus is that they are a bette...

They weren't in Canada, but I know a number of people who got a j&j shot while traveling through the US as the we able to get it earlier that way.

Re: Anti-Vax Hockey Player's Career Might be Ruined by Covid

I'm curious about the math in that article, Montando. The number of people requiring hospitalization in Canada has been over 80,000, which is about 1 in 20 confirmed cases. If 10-20% of those requiring hospitalization have heart inflammation, I don't understand how that works out to 11/100000. It's ...

Re: IFR Take Off Considerations

Correct me if I am wrong, but single engine in a twin you do not need to meet the climb gradients on the charts, you only need to make sure you don't hit anything. My initial thought was that you still need to outclimb the obstacle clearance surface, which I thought was 48'/NM less than the publish...

In addition, 28,065 people have died that are over the age of 80 within 14 days of receiving the Covid-19 vaccine. Not that deadbear has said anything insightful regarding covid from what I've seen, but I'd like to point out why statements like this are not shocking or indicative of any issues to t...

Re: Take the vaccine, or lose your job - WTF?

I don't accept that this will take as long as it takes, or as long as hospitals are full we need measures. Fix the hospitals, it's not like we are short that many beds. You could hire 15k people across the country and that would solve bed issues (let's be honest we probably have this staff in our m...

Re: Take the vaccine, or lose your job - WTF?

How much did we spend to develop those vaccines? Why didn't we put this money in hospitals?? They would have plenty of space, with equipment and staff. To treat covid and everything else. Canada's total commitment for covid vaccines, including procurement, logistics, future follow on contracts, and...
