Re: Jazz to launch pay for type rating program
Things must have changed since I was in the industry I can't remember many pilots getting to that pay level in less than ten years.150K is a big risk, but considering making over 200k less than 10 years into your career is very doable I think it's worth the risk.

Re: Jazz to launch pay for type rating program
Time as in hours flown is really not a good indication of flying experience. The type of flying is far more important in the learning context. After thirty thousand hours of logging time I finally just quit keeping track although the learning process never ended. The things that stand out in my mind...

Re: Jazz to launch pay for type rating program
Vermont I have been thinking about your questions and remarks about throwing bags and such and looking back I guess it started in 1964 when I started bush flying in Northern Ontario on floats, before that I was flying Super Cubs, Stearmans and Piper Pawnee doing aerial application. But for sure if y...

Re: Jazz to launch pay for type rating program

There is no doubt I am an idiot ayseven even though I flew in the north many years ago I ended up making as much in eleve...

Re: Seneca College Airline Pilot Flight Operations Diploma
What stage of your career did you apply for these flying positions? Were you a 250 hour wonder or had accumulated thousands of hours by then? Were you already type endorsed? I started my flying career in the mid fifties and my first flying job was as a flight instructor for about a year or two. The...

Re: Seneca College Airline Pilot Flight Operations Diploma
How come I have flown for some of the worlds biggest companies and was never asked about my education background???How would you propose companies determine in a half hour interview if you have the ability to learn, without using a degree as a frame of reference?
Not even once.

Re: Halifax crash report coming Thursday
When do you go around? What do you need to see? I go around when I do not have sufficient visual contact to see the landing surface I want to land on clear enough to safely judge my position from. I was doing non precision ADF approaches flying a transport category airplane for an airline in the la...

Re: Halifax crash report coming Thursday
They had, or thought they had, the runway environment (lights) in sight at MDA. They continued the approach. If they were continuing visual why did they fly into the ground so far short of the runway? There's nothing in the CARs saying you need to have the PAPIs in sight to descend below MDA. (But ...

I realise it is to late to make any difference now, but I have a question.
Had I gone beyond grade school would I have been a better pilot?

And has been thus forever. At MDA (the last listed point on the vertical profile published on the approach plate) you are supposed to be visual with the runway and continue visually. You use the PAPI to keep the correct vertical profile.

Re: Seneca College Airline Pilot Flight Operations Diploma
There are many people who have not received degrees or even high school education due to being born into a situation where the family just did not have the economic means to provide their children with higher education. Yet a lot of these people did manage to self educate and become very successful ...

Re: Seneca College Airline Pilot Flight Operations Diploma
Especially in the field of aviation where the only education needed is the ability to read and write. The notion often claimed that something worthwhile was achieved by attaining a degree of any kind, is offensive in the extreme to those who have achieved significant careers, in any field.
