Re: Why Employers Don't Post Wages

Mig 29, You pegged it. It doesn't matter what you do as long as you "take time to smell the roses". Flying two crew has everything to do with who you are sitting beside. You look at your roster a month in advance and if you know who you are flying with you know how your pairing is going to go, good ...

Re: Why Employers Don't Post Wages

Doc, I don't know you but I must say you are very lucky to have figured out that staying put at a job you enjoy is what is important. Don't take it personally when screwed up airline types put your job down - I personally look down MY nose at those airline dudes and laugh inside at the shitty job th...

Re: Why Employers Don't Post Wages

The wages aren't posted as 95 percent of the companies that use this forum pay very low wages and have poor working conditions thus their need to advertise here. The good companies have more than enough qualified applicants.

Re: Legendary pilot dies

Kristin, A funny story about your Dad. I was a young pilot in Yellowknife in the 90's and I was helping change an oil pan one cold morning in GTAA - Aero Arctic's Cessna 185 - in what was the North Wright hanger (beside Ptarmigan and across from Echo Bay). We were working away and your dad was in th...

Re: Would you leave your current job for AC?

I think the posters who said NO are more inclined to respond to this survey than others. I voted No as I never have applied. This has nothing to do with the recent AC problems. I think it still could be a great place to work if that is what you want and I wish AC types the best. Myself, I like to le...

Re: Being Bullied!

Doc, About getting the pilot to turn around, I`m in the back, the CHIEF PILOT is in the front passenger seat with no duals, when I couldn`t see out the side anymore I walked up front and shouted WTF, turn this thing around! By then it was too late, no reference to turn around and safer to go straigh...

Re: Being Bullied!

Regarding Bullies - my experience: Its hard to turn down a trip due to weather when 3 other pilots decide to go and come back and say it wasn't that bad. You might start to second guess yourself. But don't second guess yourself as like in my case one day when the above scenario happened one of the t...

Re: Safe landing in Ganges Harbour Pilot Cone Shapes Prop

Heard it on the local radio this a.m. with a passengers saying something like - I thought I was going to die, the plane only had one engine, the engine stopped, the nose went down and the plane started crashing and then the pilot straightened it out just in time. Started crashing??? Good job by the ...

Re: IFR into CYXT

Photofly, You don't even need a track bar to fly GPS accurately on a missed - set up Track and Bearing on the same page and you can fly the GPS just like the needle on the ADF - and you don't have to worry about wind drift with TRK. When you get close to the beacon don't chase it, just like the ADF ...

To all you glassy water experts out there you should read the news update - the 79 year old pilot had been flying for 40 years - he knew how to land on glassy water - he admitted he just f'd it up.

Sorry Cat, you missed my point - you fly the plane, don't let it fly you. All the books say keep it straight, don't over correct, blah blah blah. Experience gives you the FEEL to make the small corrections that are needed to keep you from making bigger corrections down the runway when you are slowin...

Re: Taildragger Crosswinds

I'll agree with Casterero’s coach on the 185, you’ve got to grab the bull by the horns and fly it, make a decision and stick to it. Sorry Cat, a little over controlling lets the girls know whose boss :smt014 . I also like planting it on the mains on pavement in a stiff x wind. Rough and short I’ll a...

This is an email Brad sent me last summer:

"i bet ernie i could shoot a propane tank and explode it from 500 yards. we went out in cam's field and i taped it to a fence post and then rode the quad out 500 yards and fired away with my 30-06. it exploded. what a great day."

Re: when have you used 1000ft on top?

As separation is not provided you could request it to remain at say 9000 instead of accepting a clearance to 11000 due to traffic. Two advantages of this - if there was much stronger headwinds at the higher alt, and also the lack of the need for oxygen after half an hour above 10,000.
