Re: Air Canada and their taxi speed
I can sure understand your anger at management, and like most pilots in Canada, I support you, however now you are merely inconveniencing other airlines. If you are trying to prove a point, I'm not sure this is the way. You've added maybe a couple of minutes to the block time and burnt a little extr...

Several points here; Most swept wing, underslung jet airliners are supposed to be landed in the crab, including the 737. Not the smoothest technique but that is what the manufacturer advocates. Reread the Boeing Flight Crew Training manual for the 737. Page 6.45 indicates the three methods of perfo...

Re: Westjetters back Regional Airline 91% say yes
And the race to the bottom starts..... I would argue that the way to begin a "race to the bottom" would have being to enter into a capacity purchase agreement with someone like sky regional. That way, when the contract was over, Westjet could put it out again for competitive bids, likely getting so...

Re: Departing with Frost
Tis the season so make sure you walk back far enough in the cabin to inspect the spoilers and ailerons, not just the fuel tanks for frost Westjeters. You should know by now that clear skies overnight creates frost, especially on the thinest parts of the wing and stab. If Transport was riding in the...

Re: Departing with Frost
Was probably just moisture. Not sure what the temp outside was, but I've seen it look like frost from the inside cabin. As an aside, our deicing crews across the country are very proactive, usually before I get a chance to tell them I need a spray they are coming up and either saying "you have frost...

Re: Thomas Cook and Westjet Rumor?
I don't think many of the pilots are "happy" that foreign pilots may be flying under contract for us, I also don't think many pilots are "upset" that foreign pilots may be flying under contract for us. Make sense? Maybe it's just a recognition that it probably isn't in the best interests of the majo...

The thing that makes me jaded? That's not the correct term actually, informed and aware is a better term. I've watched since day one, pretty good seat to have seen everything that has gone on here. I'm not sure how long you've been here and maybe you've never met CB. If you have, he was probably ve...

Also, our CEO last year made about 1.1 million - drastically less than the main competitor.
How much was "the main competitors" salary?

Yeah you're right. Pilots shouldn't turn on the motors when the french announcement is being made on the PA.

. The high speed reject off the short one could be an interesting bit of work if you're good that day, what if you're not?..The extra 2000 ft, 09-27, would look pretty good right about then. As professional pilots we manage risk.."the short one" for whatever reason other than it's the only choice, ...

Re: Hiring Freeze at WJA?
Wages in the beginning were supplemented by the options which made many people millionaires. You're right, many did become very rich off of the options. Fortunately for WS, the current accounting rules were not in effect, giving them the ability to issue options at no cost to the company. The wage ...

Re: WestJet Agreement 2.0
FedEx comes to mind. I don't see what a union can give WS pilots that they have not been able to do for themselves. In a compnay that values culture the way they do why would they want to offload the relationship they have with the pilots to a 3rd party? Union is a business just like any other wher...

Re: WestJet Agreement 2.0
To whit, there is no assuming the current agreement as the new collective agreement. As soon a group of employees obtains certification, then the process begins on obtaining a collective agreement, which is in essence a contract between the union, as certified bargaining agent, and the company. As ...

Re: "Poorly Paid, Often Tired, Junior Pilots"
I've always thought a flight instructor should have a minimum of an ATPL, and a few thousand hours of actual flight experience flying in a commercial operation as well. This would have a couple of benefits to the industry as a whole; 1. the instructors teaching the new entrants would have some real ...
