Re: Proposed rule change to require additional training after passing a flight test
Playing the devil's advocate, this sort of stinks of perhaps some schools looking to soak students for a bit more training. If an exercise was deemed so poorly done to need more training, there's already facility for that. Grade it a 1. I wonder if this has been suggested by certain schools and/or P...

Re: CYBW Mooney Crash
1. Mandate IFR training, or a reasonable portion, must be done in IMC conditions. Why is such a simple change getting everyone's shorts in a knot? a) Its not a simple change. First, safe IFR in this country isn't easy to come by. In my experience, Its either VFR, or its holy shit don't leave the gr...

Re: CYBW Mooney Crash
I think statistically the argument that icing related accidents are due to poor training just doesn't hold. While statistics aren't readily available for Canada, AOPA estimated that only 12% of weather related accidents had icing as a factor. This would say to me that on the whole pilots are getting...

Re: Familiarity with your airplane.
So what then? Gear extension speed limit, and a full understanding of the fuel system. Those were items 1 and 2. John Denver could have done with more attention to no. 2. And #1 is likely to be placarded somewhere obvious in the cockpit. Useful though to know the mechanism at play, and where the bi...

Re: Flight School Crashes
While the number of accidents may seem high, when compared to the amount of money the insurance companies are making off of GA, I’m sure if they weren’t we would see rates steadily climbing. Ultimately the payout rate per flight hours flown is still pretty low. One must keep in mind how many airplan...

Most survey is done single pilot, so your first step is to apply as a pilot, not an FO. The entry positions are likely to be 172, 182 and 206 jobs.

Re: Hero or Zero
It’s a bit hard to say without seeing the video. The 180/185s lightly loaded (Pilot only as far as we know) are kind of kites. More so if they’re equipped with any of the STOL kits. The big rudder remains effective at really low speeds to where changing direction even in a falling leaf, isn’t hard. ...

Re: Snowbird crash in CYKA
If there are among the unprepared If they’re unprepared, it’s usually because they were taught wrong. Two vectors here, first every once in a while an enterprising instructor decides that power is the first action to get out of a stalling situation, and we’ll if there is no power, we’ll then all is...

Most of the 912 installations don’t have a mixture control, and you turn off the engine with the mags. Which always sounds like someone stopped it with a wrench.

Answer Yes or No. I’ve seen it more than once. Extremely unprofessional in my view. No. I dont doubt you have seen it, my sarcasm is that from your posting history here, you make that assumption of all instructors, hence your first post in this thread. I express genuine shock that you would make a ...

Re: Advice for New Instructors
I recall my instructor audibly verifying fuel and oil levels with me after my walk arounds, checking oil themselves, and looking at fuel caps from the ground, to ensure they were secure. Surprised he had time to do that between instagram posts, checking facebook and re-calculating his time built to...
