Re: First Day as a flight instructor
My very first day and my very first student had a French PPL and was at my school to train for a CPL. Everything was going fairly well until we were on final, and a little high and fast. I say "So, does it look like we're in a good position?" And he just pitches for the sky and starts hammering on b...

Don't do it. Absolute waste of money. So many gaps. Aerocourse / AIM, passed both first try.

Re: Email vs in person
Unless it explicitly says “email only” or “no walk ins” I would think it would be better to go and put a face to your credentials. I did a road trip in northwestern Ontario 2 years ago, before this shortage, and I had a pretty warm welcome at 90% of the places I went to. The other 10% were not so fr...

Re: New Booklet. Incorrect Medical.
Happened to me! I just carried my old booklet with my current medical in it alongside my current booklet until I went for my next medical. I did a flight test and got a new job in the meantime and none of the examiners or employers got bent out of shape about it.

Re: Where is this so called shortage
I agree that pilots should be paid to be pilots, however, after having a couple of 200 hour wonders sit in my right seat over the last year (and having an instructing background) I gotta tell ya... The first 30-50 hours with a newbie are just like doing CPL instruction. Their multi theory is weak, t...

How far out of date are you? As in when was the last time you flew IFR?

Re: "VALID" Group 1 IFR rating ( inlusive of the IPC - instrument proficiency check)
A PPC does reset your clock, which is why you don’t see airline pilots kicking around in the redbird at your local flying school every few years doing an IPC. The biggest reason why an employer wants you to have a valid and current IFR rating prior to employing you is pretty simple. They want to spe...

Re: How are those PA-31 Cowls
Not the greatest picture (and no I wasn’t flying) but our cowl bolts are all painted red, so it’s very obvious when one is out of place. I check the security of the cowling on every walk around, I haven’t found one out of place yet (fingers crossed). As for the nose baggage door as pilotDAR mentione...

Re: C152 Weight and Balance Issue
Some times they give you a scenario that doesn’t work, on purpose. To make sure that when presented with a situation that doesn’t work for your aircraft you know how to adapt. Is the passenger or the freight more important? Can you take some of the boxes? None of the boxes? Can you safely take less ...

I’m not familiar with the quiz circulars you’ve mentioned, probably before my IFR time. A few resources you may find useful: TC AIM (free to download the PDF, pay special attention to the RAC and COMM sections) CAP GEN (if you download a free app like fltpln go you can access a current edition for f...

Re: Typical on-demand charter schedule?
Well, I work for a charter company, but it is not corporate flying by any means. I work 5 on, 2 off. The schedule for the next day comes out the previous evening. For days where nothing is scheduled, I'm on call, so if something pops up I have an hour to get to the airport. I typically fly 4 days a ...

I did my CPL FT with 75% of the requirements, so I had 150 hours TT, and 75 PIC.

Re: Landing on hotter day
You’re confusing indicated (IAS) and true (TAS)airspeed. Your true airspeed for a given indicated airspeed will vary with temperature and pressure, like, for example, on a hot day

Re: PPL Flight Test Info
Very few are outright failures. Usually if someone isn’t going to make it through the test that gets identified on the ground, and the flight doesn’t happen. I believe the pass rate is around 70%, and the rest are partials. TC tracks the pass/fail rates and if a particular school is below the nation...

Re: Air Georgian " hiring under 800TT?"
7507, I've seen posts very similar to this from you about all kinds of operators. I'm going to tell you what you need to know about ALL these companies that potentially hire with less than 1500 hrs. Do they hire people with 1000 hrs? 800? 750? 500? 250? Maybe . What does it depends upon? Does that p...

The way I read it was not that a tire fell off the aircraft, but that the aircraft itself departed the runway during an aborted takeoff. Hitting a runway light in the process.
