CF-18 makes emergency landing after losing part of rudder
http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2008/02/15/jet-rudder.html I saw an 18 land in Cold Lake in the early 90's, missing a complete vertical stabilizer. Two planes "touched" in flight causing the damage. The pilot had great praise for the a'c as it compensated completely for the missing tail. Remarkable a...

Re: Approach Ban
We have never heard of any requirement to report MA's to TC where I work. The only direction even close to this was to report diversions to our National Operations Center. This stemmed from a day awhile ago where east coast weather was crappy and most a/c ended up going some place else (most not eve...

Well it appears that there isn't sufficient interest to continue with creation of a private forum. Thanks to pokeroo for offering his time.

Re: Air Canada Incident
CTV is trying their hardest to turn it into a major story. Everything from trying to assume mechanical malfunction to depressurization all based on flight tracker data. Their analyst kept cautioning them from making too much out of it but the news anchor kept pushing. Pathetic.

Re: Question about NavCanada fees
If you read your own quote you would realize it says "State aircraft of a foreign country ". Wow! Read my own quote? You're kidding right? The fact that I added underneath, the qualifier on TC a/c etc wasn't enough? Did you read my whole post? How did you miss it? I admit I neglected to differentia...

Re: Question about NavCanada fees
Military and Government (ie STATE) do not pay fees to NavCanada. WRONG Military aircraft may not pay NC fees but other State aircraft certainly do. I hate when people jump on your answer with bad information. From the NavCanada website, concerning exemtions from fees: C. EXEMPTION CATEGORIES CODE T...

Re: Control Using Ground Speed
From our MANOPS: Express a speed adjustment: A. in units or multiples of 10 knots, based on IAS, or; (N) B. by the assignment of specific Mach number to be maintained provided the aircraft is a turbojet operating in high level airspace. We do display a/c ground speed on our scopes and I do use it to...

CATCA forum
I have approached the webmaster regarding having a private forum like JAZZ and others on here. He was kind enough to offer space here free of charge (feel free to make a donation to the site). There are a number of conditions that must be met. Two that are of immediate concern would be: 1. Someone h...

Re: Scheduling of double midnights
Zapotec, How is it that the company can do it in the face of the Canada Labour Code? Are you isolated with some special dispensation from the government? ATC can only work around 390 hours every 56 days, this includes overtime. If we inadvertantly go over I'm told the company is required to file pap...

Re: Sudbury to shut down tower and become FSS...WTF
Before we get carried away let me clarify: I am not inferring that all, most or a majority of FSS fall into the category I ranted about. The post was in response to the small minority who insist on operating outside the rules. My apologies to any who were offended and felt I was tarring them as well...

Re: Sudbury to shut down tower and become FSS...WTF
We've (at my site) received no notice of that, and our manuals haven't been updated to reflect it. When they are, or when we get an ops bulletin telling us the procedure has changed, I'll do it. But staff can't be expected to obey rules they haven't been notified about, and so your previous comment...

Re: Sudbury to shut down tower and become FSS...WTF
And one last thing: regarding you identifying a/c as per your MANOPS, you are also required (As per a ruling from TC) to tell a/c that you are providing an advisory service only (not only when you have reason to believe they don't know this). Ask the pilots how many times they hear this. I'd wager ...

Re: Sudbury to shut down tower and become FSS...WTF
In Canada we do this back door little sneaky slide to FSS+ and I think it's total BS. Nothing pisses me off more than people pretending to be something they are not. - " I have ways of making suggestions that effectively "control" some pilots..." - " I technically can't say "radar identified" but t...

Re: Low pressure on the Prairies
gotta love saying "sorry Flight Level 190 unavailable due to low altimeters." Lowest I've seen was last fall in the Hearst / Kap area 2874 i say again 2874 Heck that is its below 29.92. FL200 wouldnt even be available! You may want to recheck your figures.... IF THE ALTIMETER SETTING IS: THEN THE L...
