Re: Insurance on experimentals

The rate is largely predicated on the declared value, assuming you carry hull insurance. The average RV has a market values 50-100% higher than the average Cherokee 140, which may explain differences in rates.

Of course not. What frustrates me is that obviously better solutions exist, and nobody is using them.

Re: Owner qualified?

Honestly, because there is not a single fastener on an general aviation aircraft that has them. I dont have Robertson screw drivers in my tool box. I'll grant you that lack of robertson screws in aviation is why AME's don't have robertson screwdrivers in their toolbox. But it doesn't answer the que...

Re: Owner qualified?

"why can i not use this Robertson screw on the inspection panel, its just a screw" What's your answer? Mine is that aviation screws must ether be slotted (to ensure that the paint shops get regular work touching up paint jobs), or phillips (to ensure that AME's get regular work removing stripped sc...

Re: COPA

Note that there is no provision in the act for defining a "reasonable time" in which they can get back to you on any of this. If you request the membership list as the Act allows for, you will probably get it, but probably not in time to contact any members about any issues. Having a long line of pe...

Re: Amphibs are a nice safety feature

Because there's nowhere along the Fraser River where you could find a land-based airport. Hope, Chilliwack, Abbotsford, Fort Langley, Pitt Meadows, not to mention an endless strip of farmer's fields and straight secondary roads. Good to hear they got it down in one piece. I predict the problem will ...

Re: Flying to the US without transponder

You might get a different answer if the question is "hey, we want to reposition an airplane once because we just bought it and the XPNDR is U/S" vs. asking "hey, I want to go flying for fun and cross the border but my XPNDR is U/S and I don't want to fix it right now."

Found a PDF document that the original poster might be interested in, covers everything he would need to know on amateur builts! :) http://www.copanational.org/files/COPAGuidetoAmateurBuilts.pdf COPA isn't really the best place to ask about Amateur Built aircraft. Take a look at MD-RA (http://www.m...

Re: Process for Buying a Flying Homebuilt?

You have to pay for and submit to a "final inspection" by MD-RA. You do not have to go the MD-RA route but can also ask TC to inspect it if you wish. True! But don't expect to get flying again in this decade. TC is horrifically understaffed right now and really doesn't want to be dealing with Amate...

Re: Drone flying too close to YVR flight path or not?

There are rules for kites, we looked that up once when people were flying kites on the dyke adjacent to my home airport at the time. Not allowed within 5nm of the airport. I'd expect the same regulation would apply here, even if it doesn't explicitly state drones. That being said, this person clearl...

Re: Process for Buying a Flying Homebuilt?

I think that's only if it has less than 100 hours on the airframe, anything above that and I think it can be brought in like any other airplane, but I might not be remembering that correctly... I said "about as onerous". You have to pay for and submit to a "final inspection" by MD-RA. It's no diffe...

Re: Is Vansairforce down for everyone or just me?

The owner reported that his ISP went offline late Saturday, and was down until mid-Monday. The site was there, working just fine, but nobody could get to it. This applied to about 1000 other sites that the ISP hosts as well. It's amazing what 99.9995% uptime claims allow your ISP to get away with, w...

Re: Good deal in Planes for Sale Section

That would be an excellent first airplane for someone. Good power to weight ratio, Cessna-like speeds, and tailwheel experience. Great open-cockpit experience for the summer. You'll want to park it for the winter though... Open cockpit when it gets cold is NO fun.

Re: Flying to the US without transponder

I do wonder about the antenna connection now. An extension cable to my temp unit might not work. I do realize it's not just a simple receiver. Still seems like they could make them similar so they could just slide any unit into the rack space. Length shouldn't be an issue. I suspect the distance fr...

spafloats, if you'd like it I could give you my proxy for the AGM. You'll need to send me your name and COPA number (I suggest in a private message).
