You know it is going to be a fun ride when Bob Hoover is in the seat and there are Aresti lines taped on the window!

Re: This is how people get killed (video)

Believe it or not, one of the biggest culprits of treating low altitude maneuvering with contempt, is military pilots. Watch footage of any military pilot rolling and try not to cringe. They always lose altitude, which is almost always fatal down low. There's one now! http://i.imgur.com/unjt...

Re: Fuel on Both-one tank empty-engine failure

I've had it happen to me in the older 180. The last time it happened was on a long cross country this past summer. When you are trying to get max range, you get right down to your 30 minute reserve and any fuel calculation/burn error can be a serious error. I assume the plane to have a 4.5 hour endu...

Re: Seneca Crash at CYPQ

Wait till you try floats!

Float pilots are masters of energy conservation and the useful exploitation of inertia. It's like doing a stall turn to the right, it helps to hold a little left rudder on the vertical to give you a head start against the torque.

Re: Seneca Crash at CYPQ

Given that you own a SEL Cessna which are well-known to have control column failures after faulty maintenance ... That's a realistic emergency procedure for you to practice. Bonus points: you can do it without the rudder. How? What if I'm in an L-19 or a 190? Only one door! Guess I can still turn r...

Re: This is how people get killed (video)

Much like low-level aerobatics, this could be a display of consummate skill. There are a few determining questions that I would need the answers to before deciding: 1. Was this briefed? Did the ground man and photographer know exactly where the plane would be and which direction was safe if somethin...

Re: You can't tell snow depth from the air

Rope to tail tiedown, through ice screw or around tree, whatever, and back to the cabin tied. Ah, now I follow you. Same as with a floatplane at a dock when you re not sure it ll start. You ll still have to explain how to get the ice screw back though. Im a bit slow on the uptake this am. That's ea...

How's the weather in Smith Falls?

Tried the Wx Cam at Smith Falls to check the conditions this morning. This is what it looks like.

Check the South view, it defaults to the North.

I've never so much as met anyone from NW but I'm mystified by what is being posted. Has nobody ever straightened this guy out? I like to think that I'm a reasonable individual but talking to me that way will get you an appointment out behind the hangar. Doing it in front of co-workers or customers w...

Resume video

Well that's all the information I really need to know about a pilot before I hire them. He is very creative though.

Of all the people who have spoken on this subject, they chose to quote Pancho Barnes? Obviously not aviation historians! I'd have to be a lot more than a mile high!

Blakey: is this the ad you're referring to? http://i.imgur.com/S35q9bW.jpg Yup, that's it. 750 is not a lot of time for an Air Force pilot. (Even a fighter jock - you'll have 300+ hours before you TOUCH a Hornet) The IAF could be the answer - they don't fly much and he may have "Departed early" wit...
