Re: transponder question
less expensive encoders like the ACK-30 have a limited amount of adjustment available and are quite often throw-aways when they hit the shop for calibration Exactly! Do you get your toaster repaired? Of course not. If an older encoder starts to give you trouble, just order a replacement: http://air...

Becoming a pilot because you might think it's easy money (I'm not talking to you, Dan) is not a very good idea. Most people become pilots because they love the flying. But as they get older, they keep flying for the money. If you've been flying for 10 years and you're still eating Kraft Dinner, time...

Being an owner/operator teaches you an awful lot about airplanes, and IMHO makes you a far better pilot, although there are many people here with a different opinion.

Dee Snider is incredibly cool. He testified in front of the Senate when they were on their anti-rock music witch hunt. He and Frank Zappa made Al and Tipper Gore look like morons:I still kinda like Twisted Sister

Re: Anyone ever put the cart before the horse,
a piece of masking tape was accidentally left over the static ports (on the bottom side of the fuselage) after cleaning the aircraft that eventually led to the crash Yeah. A very small detail resulted in a very bad day. 70 fatalities. The static ports are critical to the operation of virtually all ...

Re: Runway Incursion?
If you are a formation, you can legally be taking off or landing multiple aircraft at the same time on the same piece of pavement. We do it all the time. Note that a formation does not necessarily require travelling in the same direction at the same time: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6UuX6ML2U4 P...

Re: Anyone ever put the cart before the horse,
Heavy maintenance is always something to be regarded with great respect and care, by a knowledgeable pilot. But it doesn't even have to be heavy maintenance! Does anyone remember a horrible accident, I think in South America, after a Boeing was washed? The ground crew forgot to remove the tape they ...
