Re: Terrible news for the Air Canada work force...

I was out walking in London today. Tons of people out enjoying the 26C weather. Not sure their presence is incontrovertible proof of anything, but that's what I saw. I don't disagree that the Communist Party of China lies about things - that's literally what Communism is, a lie. There were more than...

Re: Canadian ATPL to EASA ATPL

I have UK citizenship, so I looked at doing it in Ireland, however the costs(you can't take all the tests at once(they told me one a week), so hotel airfare food for 3 months........long story short, I didn't do it though i have TCAA/FAA/CASA licenses Interesting, I didn't think it would be THAT re...

Re: Canadian ATPL to EASA ATPL

I did this entire process in 2017 and wrote a fair bit about it elsewhere on this site if you search. Apologies, but not going to write a bunch of separate messages privately. While I commend your ambition to spend your downtime doing something constructive, I should point out that until borders and...

Re: Coronavirus Numbers

W.H.O. Talk about being stuck between a rock and a hard place. Don't forget that the Chines blocked them from visiting Wuhan at the beginning of the outbreak. The WHO director general, the one you want out, had to fly to Beijing at the end of January to negotiate entry and information sharing. It t...

Re: Coronavirus Numbers

I think the public won’t put up staying home for much longer. It goes against your civil rights to tell you how many people can gather within your own home. The prolonged affect of isolation will cause more damage than being infected. We live on an economic planet. The economy needs to keep moving ...

Re: Planes picking up medical supplies -- leave empty....

I remember flying the B777F in and out of PVG. Cargo ops even prior to the virus were a nightmare. Even when you did get your consignment you'd sit waiting, sometimes for hours, to push back while everyone screams at each other in Mandarin on the radio. Then push and start, to taxi...100 metres. Set...

Re: Project Wingman

I'm not personally involved, just passing it along. There are social distancing and hygiene protocols in place. Apparently hospitals are fairly well-informed about the risks of Covid-19 transmission. I wish you well setting up something similar using Zoom.

Project Wingman

So here in the UK, with all of the unemployed aviation employees they've set up a project called Project Wingman where crew from all the airlines volunteer their time to support frontline healthcare workers in the NHS. Basically they set up lounges in hospitals and simply offer a break: a quiet plac...

Re: Cargojet stll hiring

When a wide body Skipper position is paying slightly more than —half— the Canadian industry standard.........that’s a garbage wage. Don’t even try to compare it to US cargo carriers cuz it’s 40% worse than half of garbage. There comes a financial break point where the responsibility, cost of attain...

Re: Corona Virus

Please mods, lock this thread. There is zero value-add anymore.

Only two types of poster left now: unhinged conspiracy theorists, and paternalistic a-holes with strangely similar names talking down to them.

Shut 'er down, the patients are running the asylum.

Re: Corona Virus

4. It is not nearly as high a death rate as you are saying...."On Mar. 3, the World Health Organization said the mortality rate for the virus had increased to 3.4 per cent." Guess what WHO.....there are all kinds of people without symptoms or few symptoms who never got tested. The mortality rate is...

Re: Corona Virus

It’s amazing how self-righteous and know-it-all pilots can be, relying on their own unique, revolutionary ideas, concepts, and pseudoscience, rather than having faith in the doctors of the world and people with actual medical expertise. Everyone is trying to save the economy from behind their keybo...

Re: Corona Virus

I believe he's simply pointing out that ventilator or not, your chances are not good once you get to the point you need one. The doctors can't do much in such situations, only designating between certain death and almost certain death. Some "choice". Of course they should try to save everyone, that ...

Re: Corona Virus

The wet market has re-opened. So it could not be the source or they would have kept it shut :) At least we are only dealing with one epidemic , have some sympathy for some countries that are fighting multiple outbreaks . As well as facing a second wave of the covid 19 , they are facing a swine flu ...

Talk about thread drift....unreal. Hmm...seems to me layoffs and job losses are more than slightly linked to financial preparedness... I'm not even sure how to respond to that thrashing other than to say I fortunately live down the road from my parents and not in the middle East so I know in...

He lost $700k but yes he started with $2.6M. My point is his cheap ass couldn’t enjoy it and now it is gone. He doesn’t seem too worried. He still has lots. My other point is the AC pilot that this retirement package targets has lots of money - already. But time is a resource that is limited no mat...

My dad lost $700k in the stock market in this. Worked so hard his whole life (not airlines). Total Alberta blue collar work horse Deserves every penny. But could not spend it. I gave him so much crap yesterday. He could have rented the nice cars on vacation, flown first class, treated his wife to g...

Re: Who's gotten a lay off?

It’s equities that will be (are being) killed, not real estate. So far. 500,000 EI applications last week. Normal average about 2,000,000/YEAR. The one thing that can definitely kill any real estate market is job losses. Mortgages are cheap, but pretty hard to make payments without a job. Mortgage ...

Re: Layoffs

So...... almost 1/10th the swine flu pandemic nobody remembers? Good grief. The numbers presented in that graphic are to show trends, not absolute values. Those can't be known yet for Covid-19. Duh? The swine flu was contained. Covid-19 has not remotely been contained. See the difference? Besides, ...

Lets see what happens, layoffs or not. Life will go on. Of course it will. And please don't take my comments as wishing ill on anyone whatsoever. I'm glad to hear that AC is better positioned to survive than in the past. But given the scale of how this is unfolding I just don't get the sense that t...
