Re: Long Landing Thread
From an airliner point of view....I wouldn't even necessarily fully agree with the above. One can be landing in the touchdown zone and be almost 3000 feet down the runway. Combine that with some slipperiness at a heavy landing weight and you might be going off the end of the runway. Touching down i...

Re: Taking Control on the Ground
Is that only an issue in Canada? I was under the impression ICAO markings would keep the whole plane on the taxiway as long as you obey the width restrictions for the taxiways/runways. Wouldn’t bet on that. If anything happens during taxi you’re the one responsible. Airbus states that the oversteer...

Re: Air Canada 777 Damaged by Ground Vehicle Fire - YUL
There are a lot of vehicles servicing an aircraft. Each vehicle has an assigned space. This avoids them obstructing other vehicles. There's a lot of stuff moving around an aircraft.

Re: Air Canada 777 Damaged by Ground Vehicle Fire - YUL
Good thing it wasn’t an EV. Wait till there’s battery fires around airplanes. A truck full of lithium ion batteries would have burned that plane to the ground since pouring water on them does nothing. Water is how you fight a Lithium battery fire - FAA training video is online. Lithium batteries ne...

Re: Career perspective based on the long run
Hi, Apparently no topics covered this area, so let's do it. What are the current and expected timeline from junior 737 FO to 737 CA then to 787 FO and CA? Is there any relevant hope to compress this timeline bidding for certain bases? Do you have any idea about the standard evolution for a long ter...

Re: Student flight test failure affecting instructor record?
I trained them very well and pre flight test went good and booked the flight test and unfortunately they couldn’t pass the flight test. The best training in the World is worthless if the people being trained don't understand what they are being taught. A big part of training is listening and asking...

Re: Does Transat Still Send 2 Across The Atlantic?
Not too familiar with the CARs but under EASA we have to concept of 'acclimitized' and 'not acclimitized'. Reporting time will determine maximum duty on the outbound sector. On the return sector crews will have less allowable duty depending on the amount of rest and number of time zones crossed away...

Re: Employment gap of 2 years and about to start my pilot training. Need your advice.
There are companies that want complete employment record - Asian companies being one example. Most companies just want to see your qualifications for the job you applied for - the in person interview is just to make sure you're not a complete idiot. If it comes up just be honest about it. These days...

Re: New Airline
I've seen the 'ethnic' business model tried over and over again.
As far as I know it has a 100% failure rate.
A good way for wealthy business men to lose a lot of money imho.

Entering the US as crew member with Canadian passport
My current situation is as follows:- I am working on my UK passport and have a B1/B2 and C1/D Visa for the US. These are about to expire. After submitting my application to renew them I have been told no appointments are currently available at the US consulate and there is no indication when this wi...

Re: Asiana A321 cabin door opened in flight
I find this one interesting because up until I saw the video of these poor schmucks getting 150 kts of wind in the face, I was under the impression that it was impossible to open an emergency exit in flight due to either differential pressure, or a safety latch of some kind, (or both). Maybe just n...

Re: Wide body with no former jet-time
Regarding AF 447 It’s not correct to look at this as an hours/experience issue imho. This is training issue - they mismanaged a failure, resulting in the aircraft stalling. If they had done absolutely nothing they would have been fine. Northwest had the same thing happen crossing the Pacific. They f...

Re: Wide body with no former jet-time
I've noticed during sim training that fully developed stalls are never (rarely?) trained. I can understand during actual flight training that you want to recover at the first signs of a stall, but if you're in a simulator, why not train/simulate full/deep stalls, Even if recovery is unlikely or har...

Re: Neurodiverse pilots groups
Not sure if very many autistic people can make it through training. Piloting/Aviation attracts people with a narcissistic personality disorder - seen plenty of examples over the years. Some really extreme personalities - to the point I refused a fleet transfer at one company. Easy to spot once you k...

Re: Wide body with no former jet-time
Any chance that the dash guys who would be happy to have a system that allows two new dash guys up front while the captain sleeps would have a temporary different opinion if they were on a zed fare to Australia? Disclaimer:- Don't work at Air Canada. At my company all Captains are right seat qualif...

Re: Wide body with no former jet-time
I heard that unless you have former jet experience, you cant be considered for a WB position on initial hire. Just wondering if anybody knows whether or not this rumour is true? This would seem abit silly, certaintly for those coming from Jazz. Disclaimer:- I don't work at Air Canada. This can be d...
