Re: Transport Canada Website Down
Maybe I'm just used to efficiency and streamlined processes. I'm naturally a very lazy person, so if I see an easier/more efficient way of doing something, most often I will opt for it. In the case of the government of Canada website, it feels like pulling teeth with a rusty set of pliers whenever I...

Re: Transport Canada Website Down
Maybe, just hopefully maybe, the government of Canada is updating their website so that it looks like it has kept up with change. A website whose front page looks like it's still stuck in 2004? Not to mention navigating that website... I don't know about anyone else, but I would actually appreciate ...

Re: The beginning of the end of small private airstrips
This sounds like a few too many "Karen"s got upset that the house they moved into 3 years ago is in the direct path of someone who's lived in the same house for 20 years' approach path. Seriously, though, if someone starts a petition, or has an example of a letter to write to their MP, let me know, ...

Re: Harv's Air
For MIFR, it goes above and beyond the required knowledge. If you want to get test ready, some other textbooks might do well enough.
I definitely recommend the online ground school for PPL and CPL courses.

Re: Harv's Air
How long ago was this? I agree with 90kts. It seems unlikely that that was the entirety of the training. However, maybe your friend's son was just so good, he didn't need any extra practice time ;) The syllabus is there for a reason. Assuming one has their cpl, they only need another 15 hours of ins...

Sharper Edge has a good book. Just be aware that some of the answers in the back are wrong.

Re: 50 hours and no solo
What school do you attend? Have you flown with a senior instructor recently? 50 hours is getting on the extreme side of things.

Re: CPL oral test reviews
I would certainly say that 4.5 hours of ground is staggering! Depends on where you go, but from my experience the CPL oral shouldn't take more than 2 hours. Flight test about the same, and probably a half hour debrief afterwards. How I explain the difference to people between CPL and PPL is that for...

Thoughts on Aerial Application
I'm looking at getting into crop dusting. I've got a few hundred hours in taildraggers, and about 900tt. I know the general process: train, get hired, load, fly. I was hoping someone with recent experience (within the last 2 or 3 years) applicating aerially could shed some light on the reality of th...

Re: flight school where chances are bright for flight instructor job
I would actually say that not all flight schools are created equal. I'm currently working at Harv's Air in Steinbach, and absolutely love it! Best decision I've made. Before I got my rating, I was living in S. Alberta, looking at flight schools there. I almost committed to a few, but Harv's won me o...
