You are correct. Your instructor needs some instruction...
Are there any airports in Canada east of Montreal with 2 runways that don't touch? Other than maybe something with a parallel grass runway..?

Re: B1900 or flight instruction?
Can you get enough PICUS hours to meet all the requirements for an ATPL these days? Also, be careful, a lot of operations have PICUS programs but don't have a lot of captains that are qualified to do it. Also, I know guys (at least 2) being turned down at regionals and elsewhere due to lack of PIC ...

Re: alcohol and jumpseating
So jumpseating pilots are considered "additional crewmembers" in the FARs, what about the CARs? Anything in the regs for Canada? I took a quick look at my company's jumpseat agreements with the big carriers and didn't see any mention of alcohol anywhere. Last time I travelled on WJ I went to see the...

Re: 50 Seat Q400
They aren't nose heavy with an APU, and the weight difference is not terribly significant, especially the useful load of the average 300. There are a few companies doing the 300 combi mod, and for good reason. 40 pax with 4000 lbs or so cargo and bags is a capable platform for up north. That said, I...

Re: 50 Seat Q400
PW 150s might be a bit much on the 300s frame...could see them going with a version of the PW 127s with 6 bladed props like the newer ATRs use and a prop brake for a hotel mode thus negating the need for an APU....definitely lots of modernization and upgrade potential if they ever do go ahead with ...

Interesting theory, but I question the use of a Saab. Not exactly the best aircraft. If you need cheap, you can get an old Dash 8-100 for not a ton and it can carry more passengers. I think , from what I've heard, the Saab is still cheaper to operate and has a lower break even factor than the DH8A....

Jazz YHZ Base Rumours
Heard a rumour that Jazz is going to take over the EVAS flying out of YHZ come January. Has anyone heard anything about this? Does anyone know when EVAS's contract is up? Does/will Jazz have enough Classics left to operate the YHZ-YQM,YFC,YJS,YYG runs? How does the AC route planning work with Rouge ...

So they were pretty sure it was cigarette smoke but couldn't find the source. I'd divert too if I had a smoke warning in conjunction."Failing to find the source of cigarette smoke the plane was safely diverted to Regina," the statement said.

Re: Swoop CYQR Smoke diversion
Really? A diversion for someone smoking cigarettes? Crew wearing O2 masks? and a diversion? This either isn't cigarettes smoke or the crew is making some strange decisions... Says they couldn't find the source. Smoke is smoke, if they had a smoke warning and couldn't be sure they found the source, ...

DHC revealed a 50-passenger configuration for the Q400, like that created by Bombardier at the request of Trans States Airlines, an operator for United Airlines, to reconfigure the CRJ700 to 50 passengers and called the CRJ550 . The Q400 50-seat version provides ample carry-on luggage space to avoi...

Re: Boeing Max.
Once you get yourself into the situation of having that much nose down trim, at such a low altitude, you are done. The manual trim wheel won’t move with the opposing forces applied. The only way to trim is to release all force and let the nose fall. If you don’t have a few thousand feet, it’s all o...

CRJ and 1900 is this all ex-Georgian equipment? Seems the answer is no: As previously reported, against the backdrop of its acrimonious relationship with SACAA, Van Der Molen incorporated a company in Canada - FlyCemAir Canada - in May last year with two aircraft having been transferred from the So...

Requirements seem pretty steep You think 3000 hours total and 1000 jet is steep for an RJ Captain? The times we are in... Yes, exactly. For the times we are in, that is steep. 6 month upgrades at Jazz, DEC at Sky Regional, DEC at Swoop (ha). I'm not saying it's crazy, but how many people in this co...

Who are these guys? Hiring CRJ and 1900 crews; CRJ captain ad wants 1000 Jet and 300 on type. Requirements seem pretty steep unless they plan on convincing Jazz crews to come over or are trying to sponsor some new permanent residents with the requirements... Seems to be a subsidiary of a South Afric...

How many airline category airplanes require a computer driven ( load alleviation ) device to stop a pitch excursion caused by the engine thrust needed to take off and climb that is so powerful it can cause the airplane to crash if it is handled improperly? How many transport category aircraft have ...

Are they short instructors?
Are their instructors paid by the flight hour?
Most "big" flight schools in Canada are busy enough that students can't even do commercial time building during the day time.
Aircraft don't make money sitting on the ground. I wonder what's happening there.

Take the 200 and 300, throw some new avionics, the newer NVS from the Q400, the engine/prop combo from the new ATR's, and a APU that isn't a POS.
Could probably certify with at least another 1000 lb gross weight increase, and do 300 ktas all day.

Re: What do you do when you think someone should never fly again?
In my (limited experience) they make it through line indoc because they're not TOO far behind the curve for a new hire, but they end up not progressing beyond this point. It's one thing to have a fresh FO a little behind the aircraft, another to have an FO that's been flying the same aircraft for a...
