This same issue may arise at Pitt Meadows Airport as the airport authority has decided to give the local mayors & council full control of pretty much anything that has to do with the airport, including the enforcement of the cities development rules. Simpleton I don't understand why you find this iss...

Not the paint scheme you are looking for but this aircraft C47 668 shows up in my dad's log book on May 8,9,10 of 1960 with a f/l Johnson - looks like a round robin wg - Wainright, looks like Wainright- xe,xe- mj,MJ- wg. Total flight time of 9.6. Dad was also part of 101 in Shearwater at the time the...

I would think that flying a Canadian registered aircraft with a Canadian pilot's license that you would follow the Canadian currency requirements.

Re: Noise Sensitive protesters are kind of...loud
My belief is that the noise complaints should generate a flag on your property deed & the number of complaints available to the prospective new owner.
If you complain about noise from any form of transportation you should be banned from using that form for travel for life.

Spoken like a shareholder,Hunter Hambone was great for cn & cp shareholders - but if you are a customer of either railway you will quickly find out that serving the customers is dead last on his mind. Re: 185 and 2960's. Glassy grief
Basically he's politey telling you that what sounds like a nose low attitude on a glassy water landing almost put you in the drink. You need a proper check out in your aircraft with someone familiar with the 2960's. The 2960's have a narrow sweet spot but the 185 performs very well on them in the pro...

Re: File SID in Flight Plan or Not?
All the above may be true but I was once held on the runway in Charlottetown until I read the entire Sid departure back to the fss guy in the tower - including effective date, just for a short flight to Halifax. His reason was that I hadn't put the Sid in my ifr flight plan & he wanted to make sure I ...

Re: Cessna 185 vs. Cessna 206
My buddy ran 2960's on his 185,said they were the best combo but were easy to overload on the 185;which meant they disappeared under the water in turns & didn't handle rough water at all. They were amazing for high altitude & hot days on glassy water. 3430's handled the rough water but the 185 flies ...

Re: Cessna 185 vs. Cessna 206
I made the same comparisons in 1983 & bought the 185.Lower maintenance costs, less delicate on the water. More elbow room in the 206,but the 185 outperforms the 206 on floats. You can get it in the 206 but getting it to fly off the water may not be possible,if you can get it in the 185 it will fly. As...

When I needed a couple of barrels of avgas delivered to the bush I called up one of the bulk fuel suppliers & asked them if they sold avgas - advised of the barrel deposit & delivery charge & was asked where I wanted it dropped off & who would sign for it. It was a lot more expensive to purchase in ...

In the past when I was a much younger man I gave the local Transport Canada office a call & had them transfer me to the local airworthiness fellow to ask what I needed, failing that I would explain what I needed to my ame(who happened to be my dad at the time) & he would make the call & ask the quest...

185,sportsman stol,20 flap, trim just a touch nose up,set throttle so that aircraft stayed around 60 knots - maybe 65 indicated.

Re: Float plane take off distances?
Probably late to this discussion but I was taught to slow to 60 kts indicated, trim a touch nose up in case you aren't paying attention & then either count seconds,or hit the timer, don't run right to the end of the lake bacause you need some pucker factor space. Time needed for take off was average f...

Back in 1983 I couldn't rent a 180/185 for any price because I had that newly minted float endorsement with the dripping ink. My dad being an ame found me a 185 & I bought it.After a very good checkout I made a deal with my dad - you wrench & I will fly you anywhere you want to go fishing & we'll sh...
