Re: ATIS in terminal airspace with one radio

For IFR a/c we sometimes see them take 2-3 mins to check in on terminal frequency after the electronic handoff from the en route people. I always assumed it was because they were getting the ATIS before calling me. No biggie as if there was an issue it would be fixed before you were switched.

Re: Any updates on training?

We were told in QM ACC that HR/training dept had been reaching out to the trainees that were on the floor when they were let go to see if they were interested in coming back.

Re: Pop-Up IFR

Not sure why pop up IFR's are an issue for controllers anywhere. If you are arriving VFR at my airport and want an IFR clx to get in, I will identify you and issue a clx. If you are squawking 1200 I will assign a discreet code and will need your type and pt of departure. If you were given a code on ...

My CAME told me when I turned 55 that I needed a hearing test and that I could get one done and she would forward it with my medical or I could wait till TC demanded one. I went and got it done.

Re: Tower closure predictions?

Has there ever been a case of a LOS review where a unit was not downgraded or closed? Seems to me this process is a lot like the HIRA. I believe Windsor underwent an LOS review in the late 90's that was unsuccessful and another in the 2000's that started but was never officially completed. Not sure...

Re: Remember Tenerife

From the report: "As the flight crew of the CRJ 200 lined up in position on Runway 33R and the FO finished the line-up checklist, the captain asked the FO if they had received a take-off clearance. The FO stated that they had." That should have been the end of it right there. My rule is.....if any ...

Re: ATC Layoffs?

I happen to know that they did propose a deal of this sort. Also I've heard it from reliable sources within the union and from the other side. I suppose we could have voted to give the company a further break so that they could give the managers more than the $7 million in bonuses that they did on ...

Re: ATC Layoffs?

Not sure how last one out first one back is unfortunate. It's just logical. What's unfortunate is that there are layoffs in the first place and that our union never gave us a chance to vote on proposed salary freezes/cuts to save these jobs. Shame on CATCA. I think he meant unfortunate for anyone w...

The US has had it happen a few times when they had to clear out a facility because of Covid-19, deep clean and get new people into work.

Re: NavCanada Aiming to Transition 6 Towers to FSS

The company has announced a level of service review which involves all stakeholders. I believe this was being driven/decided before the pandemic and is not a result of it. Yeah I know this was announced a while ago, but I wasn’t aware if the specific airports were mentioned. I’m surprised with YAM ...

Re: CYVR 26L TODA to read 17,250' ?

I understand TORA + Clearway = TODA. It just seems TODA is 17250' that's almost 6000' longer than the actual runway length. Just curious is it because 08 end has nothing but ocean(considering the water is the clearway) And what's the TODA like before the NOTAM? TODA is the takeoff runway available ...
