True.. also Insurance costs dont help. $100k for two days, non refundable when I contemplated arranging one years ago. Pretty much killed all the smaller shows :(
Even aerobatic contestes were $1000 a day:(

Re: Helmet Recommendations
I used my Gunner / Telex in the Extra 330 and it worked well. i was paranoid about scratching the canopy and put soft felt over it. Those canopies cost more than my car!!

Re: Parking Brake on the Runway
Except if you are flying a Chipmunk or Tiger Moth where the parking brake is your brake lever and provides differential braking with rudder in addition to being a parking brake ;)
Otherwise no .. bad idea.

Re: 2 planes collide in midair on Montreal's South Shore
There is no harm in assuming that language and looking outside skills played an important part in this accident and for everybody to up their game accordingly. It may be other factors played a role but it would be irrisponsible for pilots , instructors and ATC to not react in how they aporoach their...

Re: Cold oil changes
If you preheat the engine a bit with hot air you can do a cold oil change fairly easily. I occasionally do this when its too cold to fly but i need to change the oil. To preheat I put an electric hot air heater under the engine, direct the hot air into the bottom of the cowl. Put a blanket on top, w...

Re: RCAF aircraft flying today?
Our Fleet Finch at Vintage Wings was built in 1943 and she flies 20-30 hours a year ;) Ditto for our Spit and Hurricane. We also have a Fox Moth in the collection which belonged to the King of England for 6 months which he used for training of some kind. I think thats 1937 and is has the Royal Famil...

They work and I easily built and converted a headset years ago but they are not good enough for very loud environments and after a few good earaches I said screw it and got a Telex 50D.

Re: Spacial Disorientation
I have found that I can help my exposure to unusual attitudes in a swimming pool. If you do a few rolls underwater or a loop by tucking into a ball and using your arms to cause forward or backward rotation you can disorient yourself rather spectacularly. Go swimming to get exercise and also do a few...

Re: Helmet Recommendations
Dave, agree its a lovely helmet. I considered getting one but I found I could not lift my head up and back which made inverted stuff challanging. I like to tilt my head waaaay back for inverted spins and pull humpties. It certainly was the closest one to being acceptable but I ended up having to mod...

Is there some legislation that binds them to privacy? It seems sensible that they would be but the CARS dont say much about it.

Re: PPL (on tailwheel) at Canadian Flight Centre
I tend to agree, nose overs happen usually because somebody locked up the brakes and trust me the brakes can lift your tail up just find when the tail wheel is on the ground. Usually somebody will brake too hard on one side so the plane ground loops before it has a chance to nose over. Two pointers,...

Re: Review Of F-35 Fighter Likely To Yield Lower Price, Faster Production
Is it even possible to build a twin engine VTOL aircraft that can survive a single engine failure? I suppose the Osprey is one but its not quite the same thing and does not have a supersonic requirement. I know not all the variants are VTOL but the idea was one airframe for multiple forces which on ...

Re: Small plane crash in Perth, Australia
Sad, my guess is this is the classic stall then wing drop due to uncoordinated rudder then aileron to lift creating more yaw and a spin. Either that or engine failure below his VMC. Speaking of stalls and twins. I don't fly twins but of course there is a VMC which is your minimum control speed on on...
