Re: Kenn Borek Air Operations
It's been a while since I spoke with Richie but the position he seems to have the most trouble filling is the king air in Inuvik. This has likely changed with covid but that was their high turnover point at one time. I had one of my f/o's leave for direct entry on the DC3 but he was current ( parach...

Re: Get safe aircraft control before talking to ATC
A screw up by a commercial pilot 25 years later, over 30 PPCs passed, yet the root cause of the incident is always bad instruction during primary training! :smt043 really! read the post There something wrong with the current system. The lack or stick and rudder skills is rampant but the knowledge o...

Re: Get safe aircraft control before talking to ATC
With inexperienced pilots the first thing I always had to beat out of them is not to start yapping on the radio as soon as airborne. I guess that's how the schools train them and it's wrong. Fly the aircraft or do you non flying pilot duties of monitoring until the safe altitude is achieved (400 to ...

That was a fancy beech, imagine an autopilot -- damn, made his job much easier.

Re: Pfizer Covid Vaccine shows 90% effectiveness.
Vaccines are not the silver bullet. I wonder how many here get their flu shots every fall because covid will likely be under the same preventative measure. It just cuts down on the odds. It's not a cure. Vaccinations will become more of a routine and part of life because this won't be the last time ...

Re: Canadian aircraft owned by foreign company
I know a cpl tourist operators who flew their american registered a/c using canadian pilots, the aircraft always went back to the USA and I'm pretty sure there was something like 6 months. They would just make the time limit during their season. I know it might be difficult to get information on for...

Re: FAA Permits airlines to ban emotional support peacocks.
Pretty simple for me, animals in the hold or sent as freight. If you want to travel and can't do that maybe you should not have a pet, stay at home with your pet or just do road trips. I like dogs and cats and have had them as companions in the past. They were never considered my brother, sister or ...

It's not about a particular group unless you divide it into just 2. The group that feels it's a government conspiracy and choose to ignore all the common guidelines and the group that does follow all suggested precautions and is ruled by common sense and concern for more than just themselves. Blame ...

Re: Pfizer Covid Vaccine shows 90% effectiveness.
Would it even be necessary for people in their 20’s 30’s or even 40’s that don’t smoke, not overweight, have no underlying health issues, etc. to take the vaccine. There is where the problem lies. This attitude is what is causing the present surges. It's about people and personal contact and that t...

Re: Use the Autofeather
I stand corrected and there is one instance of reduced T/O weight and I believe that's structural at colder than -40 due to landing gear. Maybe that's changed as well. It's only been almost 40 years since I flew one

Re: boeing 737 max retrurns coming back
Most seem to be ignoring the fact that what happened to the max (crashes) was part of the aircraft manufacturing culture. History verifies this. Boeing is caught in the past as far as company culture is concerned. That needs changing! They endeavoured to produce a safe aircraft but in truth how can ...

Re: boeing 737 max retrurns coming back
certainly "everyone" failed and the mindset that every new aircraft developed, (as the long history of airliner development shown), has an acceptable body count to make it safe needs to change. It's a daunting task since it's now software and automation and with dumbing down of stick and rudder skil...

Re: boeing max retrurns coming back
It has been an interesting voyage. In my mind I have always questioned if the aircraft should have been grounded in the first place. It was a media and social media farce. Tragic but it wasn't the aircraft but the human factor which caused the grief. Social media magnifies human knee-jerk emotional ...

Re: Show & Tell - Bush Radio.
That was an old radio - no coaxial connector just the 2 wires on terminals and I think about 10W - not the pic of my burn but similar but on the side of my hand. The radio didn't have a mike but a telephone handset plus a speaker in the base station. Just a small box about 1 foot cubed. I had an ama...

Re: Use the Autofeather
I thought the 2Otter had a reduced T/O weight for autofeather inop - guess that is mute because they were always seriously over gross(6K pounds at certain times) Most of my turboprop time is on Darts and Allison's. Although there are rumours of a single engine T/O of a 748 in Frob in the b...

Re: Split Flaps
The craziest thing that happened to me was in the herc sim during my initial training. The instructor froz one side flap at about 400 ft with flap retraction and we simply rolled it up in a ball. Thanking the gods for the freeze button. You much remember it needed 2 system failures to do this and th...
