Re: CFI Charging $140 Etransfer to Submit Night Rating Application. Normal?

The Chief Flight Instructor (and owner) of my flight school is asking me to send him $140 as an etransfer "for his time" to submit my night rating application to TC. I don't know exactly what is involved, but he told me he's already multiple hours into it and now I need to pay for his time. Is this...

Gool thread resurrection. Good old days from this forum.

Is . (aka Cat Driver) still alive? He was old back when I started on this forum around the turn of the millennium.

Re: Sky regional 2.0

Could one of the legal types on here (JBI? Bede?) explain, if the company (Jazz) is in violation of the contract in two ways, why the pilots are being held to a no strike clause? A bit outside of my expertise, but I'll try to answer. First, 2 things: This type of situation severely sucks for the pi...

Sorry, how did it turn out for Jazz?

From my perspective, they merged, then most everyone went off to AC and life moved on.

Re: WestJet Sunwing merger and seniority

https://www.hrreporter.com/focus-areas/employment-law/pilots-experience-turbulence-during-merging-of-seniority-lists/287575 Arbitrators can face an especially invidious task in deciding on an equitable outcome when blending seniority lists, especially after the merger of giant organizations. Re: So, years ago......

Over the years I have made a few tough decisions. While making those decisions, I made a serious attempt to "think like a business man". Remove the emotional component and think "what's best for my family's future". They were very hard decisions, followed by actions that were not immediately reward...

Re: WestJet Sunwing merger and seniority

2:1 ratio with no fences. I am sorry but we can't have captains with 3 years seniority holding a left seat when the larger carrier has a 10 year upgrade. I think there's some confusion about what a ratio means. A 2:1 ratio would be 2 WJ pilots, then 1 WJ pilot until you run out of pilots at one pro...

Can someone post the AC 2002 wage scales? Are there any other losses in there that need to be accounted for? (Vacation, training outside the block, days worked etc?)

Re: Air Canada pilots stand “UNITED”

The Pilot unity is great, it’s awesome but I hope it’s not gonna be used and abused at the cost of junior pilots like WJ did ! Seniors getting all good raises juniors be left with nickel and dime! That's not a fair criticism. The junior pilots did quite well in CA1 with years of service pay and the...

Re: Air Canada pilots stand “UNITED”

When someone comes on here and starts talking about "not repeating mistakes of the past", and they are from the past, they better be damn ready to reflect the damage done from the past But your assumption is that because the guy was "from the past" that he was involved in these mistakes. Further, e...

Re: Air Canada pilots stand “UNITED”

I’m old. I don’t do VO. I stood on the informational picket line outside the terminal in YYZ. I have walked two picket lines that produced much needed changes to our employment contracts that are still benefitting junior pilots today. And you think I am the reason your career isn’t what you think i...

No.

Yes.

Just make sure that you get practice into controlled airports during your CPL.

In close to 20 years of airline flying I have never once been pressured by ops or had to defend a decision to a Chief pilot.

Basically, can i decent with full fine prop with low MP, basically using the prop as a speed break would result in a high rate of decent without exceeding airspeed limitations... Yes, that's how pretty much every turboprop does it when they need to descend at a high rate. However, I can't see how y...

Signing up to be pilots? Yep, it's packed. The problem is no one wants to do the instructor route so there's few instructors so schools are limiting students. Are the schools you're involved with considering raising rates/paying instructors more? Honest question. I'm wondering what the inside thoug...

Re: Ab initio training comes to Canada

My dad used to work for SwissAir (as a mechanic). They had a cadet program for top engineering and science graduates and the airline paid for it. If that was the case, I'd be for it. In these cases, it's a really, really expensive program for a crap airline job at the other end. This is basically pa...

What are the advantages to being "at the front of the next wave"? Is everything seniority driven?
