Used to be that Conair had a stack of resumes a foot high for 2 or 3 openings a season, now they seem to scrambling for crews every season.
The lifestyle is tough but the flying is the coolest you will ever do outside of the military.

Re: C150 down near ottawa
Shortly afterwards, the engine power decreased more considerably; the aircraft entered a steep right bank, followed by a steep nose down attitude and impact with terrain. The aircraft was destroyed, one person was fatally injured, and one received serious injuries. TSB deployed to the Yikes. I get ...

Re: What Was Aviation Like Back then?
Back in the early 2000's I used to do a every 6 month IFR proficiency flight for a friend of mine in a very nice twin Cessna. The route was CYYJ to CYPW for a full procedure NDB, missed over to YBL for the back course LOC, missed over to CYQQ for a PAR, missed over to CYCD for the straight in NDB fl...

Re: C150 down near ottawa
Partial engine failures, especially at low altitudes can be very hard to manage. If the engine just stops the situation is pretty unambiguous, but if it partially fails there are often suddenly many possible options. Picking the right one under stress and in a time compressed situation is a non triv...

Re: What Was Aviation Like Back then?
Well there was the Crofton Mill waypoint for the old Nanaimo NDB approach. Back in the early 1990’s I flew a Navajo on a Victoria, Vancouver, Nanaimo bag run. The only approach was a NDB which had a big bend to the left at the beacon (FAF). This meant you had to re-intercept the final approach trac...

Re: Flair pilot program
The flight school where the pilots get their 250’s a completely different topic. Quality of training can be very different. That is the nub of the problem. Europe has straight through zero to jet training programs, but they are very expensive and employ very experienced career instructors who are p...

Re: ADB renewal timeline ?
The idea I believe is to send in the application 90 days prior, this way it will not affect the subsequent renewal 5 years later... I have not heard of anyone having trouble getting their ADB. Medicals on the other hand... New ADB is good for 10 years so getting one a few months early is not a big ...

Re: Flair pilot program
Probably training new flap operators, what does it matter. I disagree. Quality Instructors should get paid what they are worth. That means instruction is going to cost more. I have no problem if this schools students are getting value for their money. That was the question I was asking. You k...

Re: Flair pilot program
The quality of your flight training is largely determined by the quality of your instructor. If this is a airline professional developmental program do the instructors have 704/705 operational experience, or are they largely new Class 4's ? Probably training new flap operators, what does it matter....

Re: Pros and Cons btw FO and RP?
I love how a thread about relief pilot or first officer positions went to who screwed up the industry more??? Jazz or Air Canada. I think we should organize a massive pilot book off day and settle this up at the wheatsheaf in Toronto over a couple adult pops. Also, I would definitely go with FO ove...

Re: Logging Co-Pilot time on Single Crew Aircrafts
FO time on single pilot aircraft is absolutely accepted but as was noted above only if the operator has TC approved 2 crew SOPS and the FO has a PCC . I know of at least one pilot who had 2 years of flying time disallowed because the operator was too cheap to do a PCC. If you are an FO flying in a s...

Re: Negotiations
Genuine question here. Back in the day I remember PWA used to run 737's to all the smaller BC communities on a daily milk run on a low frequency high capacity business model. One explanation of the current situation is that the long term AC model is a return to mainline permanently taking over most ...

Re: A lifetime of learning when to fly....
According to the FAA Airman’s registry, Mr Musk holds a PPL with Multi Engine and Instrument ratings, however his last medical was issued in 2000. I think it is highly unlikely he has been flying a L29 recently…..

Re: Comox WestJet + RCAF
Whoever parked the Herc may get a slap on the wrist (assuming they parked inappropriately), but ultimately it’s the pilots responsibility not to hit anything. From TP 312 Taxiway. A defined path on a land aerodrome designed for the taxiing of aircraft and intended to provide a link between one part...

Re: Can you take the PPL written before flight training
Have some time now to study, but don't have flexibility to do flight training yet. Can I do ground school and take the exam before flying? As was noted in other posts there are some requirements before writing. The huge thing to do ASAP is get a medical. You need a file no, ie license number, befor...

Re: Comox WestJet + RCAF
The picture shows the stopped 737 nosewheels straddling the yellow taxi line. I think the RCAF is probably going to own this one because they parked the CC130 inside the maneuvering area for the civil terminal ramp. “I was on the centreline, so it was not my fault.” I have never driven a 737...
