Re: Take Charge site glitch - candidate photo
I have run into a weird situation and am wondering if anyone else has also run into this. I cleared into the YYZ IFR candidate pool last August and have been waiting for the call to a course since then. After fruitlessly checking the Take Charge site for changes over the months, I decided maybe I s...

Re: Simulator test?
The simulator test is irrelevant to VFR and FSS so I'm not sure why there seems to be so much focus on it as the means of selecting referrals for the 3 streams.

Re: Simulator test?
From what I understand its part of the referral system and it is the only test that candidates in the referral system will have to do. From what i heard it seems to be pretty easy. Candidates under this system seem to almost be a shoe in to enter the pool, they don't have to do the online test, nor...

Re: Entering controlled airspace on the way to your alternat
ATC will not know what your alternate is. That is not a field that we can see in the ACC. We will have your original flight plan. If you called to activate it for alerting service we will know you are on your way. When you miss and proceed to your alternate you will need to contact ATC for a clearan...

I think it's Operational Training Support. They operate the simulators in the school.ProfessionalATC wrote:What does OTS mean ?

Re: Ct'd from the ATC Course
Hi there,,,,,,,I am looking for general information. Is it possible after being ct'd from the ATC course that you can be offered a re-course in the future? I have only seen this happen if after being CT'd the person was employed within the company in the school or ATOS. The people I am aware of tha...

Re: Cleared enroute?
Ok, thanks. We were leaving controlled airspace, so that makes sense. I was just a little confused because I haven't come across that terminology before (they generally say "radar services terminated" when leaving controlled airspace). If you don't have an approach clearance you should have been to...

Re: Saying passing altitude
The vast majority of aircraft I see either check-in in level flight with their altitude or they check-in with their passing altitude and their cleared altitude. As has been stated, I can use the fact that the guy next to me (or the one next to him etc) has validated your altitude. I don't mind at al...

Re: Cleared enroute?
What exactly does this phrase mean? According to the controller it seems to mean "you can change frequency without asking me", because when we asked him if we could change freq for landing at our destination he said "I already cleared you enroute". (We were still well inside class C when he cleared...

Re: Levels of Medevac?
We deal with medical emergencies on non medevac aircraft all of the time. Never have I heard one declare Mayday (or PAN for that matter). They always say something like "we are declaring an emergency (nature of emergency) request diversion to XXXX". On occasion we have also had medevac aircraft tell...

Re: Off topic: Military service datapase?
I served in both the reg force and reserves and am retired. I do not have Veterans plates. I do have a record of service card, a commissioning scroll, a retirement certificate and I know my service number. Having said that I would still tell some one that wanted to see proof of my service to piss of...

Re: Levels of Medevac?
My company SOP's state that were to file as a medevac even when empty. Apparently, the government wants the airplane to be handled as a priority at all times, in case there is another call pending. Stupid logic in my books, but hey I just fly the thing. I don't write the policies. And my company "S...

Re: Training Changes....
The current course in YQM came out on the floor part way through their specialty training. They started to be paid effective that date. They are now employees so when they go back in the school to finish the course they are paid and put on a 4/3 cycle.

Re: Your application questions answered - IFR VFR FSS
Ref the military ATC, not sure if I would say "totally different", just a "bit different" than NavCan . Same Manops after all. Some diffs I'm aware of, for starters, if you don't have a degree I'm pretty sure you will not be the actual VFR or IFR controller. You could be a ground controller, ...

After a career in the military including ATC, I feel confident in saying there is no equivalent to FSS in the military.saminbc wrote:I had also considered doing Flight Specialist under Forces.ca. It's the same position except it is military vs civilian.

Re: NavCan Second round interview question?
I just had my second round interview on Tuesday, here in Moncton FIR. I'm hoping to find out how I made out, and if I passed what specialty I'm streamed for sooner rather than later. 4 weeks would be incredibly difficult, especially since I log onto my dashboard every hour of the day to see if ther...

Re: No Alternate IFR issue
We see this quite often with traffic from Europe destined to the eastern seaboard when the upper winds are strong. They file KBGR and after they hit land fall they recalculate fuel and refile in the air changing from KBGR to desired destination.
