Re: C27J Spartan Aerobatic Demo
Very cool. I hope that if we buy these for the FWSAR replacement that they have a C-27J demo team that follows the CF-18 demo team around from airshow to airshow.

Re: SPOT vs PLB
It would seem then, that there are really two different ways to go for PLBs. You either get a Spot or Delorme (which do the whole meal deal of tracking, sending messages, etc), or one of the other PLBs which only fire off a signal when you activate them in an emergency, like an ELT. Looking then at...

Re: SPOT vs PLB
I've been doing ground search and rescue for nearly 14 years and I did CASARA for 8 years and I carry a SPOT. The largest and most important difference between SPOT and a PLB is that SPOT will track you. The URL for my SPOT tracking page is on my aircraft master with flight services so even if somet...

Perhaps Bono was trying to feed the starvin' children with an air drop.

The top one is a Bristol Freighter that used to belong to Hawk Air (I saw that particular one on its final flight, actually the last fight of a Bristol freighter, on its way through Prince George to the museum where it now resides)
The bottom one is a Grumman S-2 Tracker, modified for fire service.

Re: Cabin preheat ideas
We have an old Chrysler Dynasty over at the farm with a second/connected midsize battery behind the seat hooked up to one of them Canadian Tire inverters that came on sale for $175 ... a 3000Watt unit. It supports a couple of them cheap home hardware heaters ... on sale for $16.95 last year. (If th...

Re: Cabin preheat ideas
Funny, today's the day I started thinking about the same problem. In my case the best I've come up with is to plug my longest extention cord into the nearest building and push the plane to the end of the cord. It's a plan anyway ... I like this idea, the local flight school may not like it when I u...

Cabin preheat ideas
I was preheating my airplane last night (an hour of work just to drive the airplane from one side of the airport to the other, what a pain!) using my Tundra Toaster (similar to a Red Dragon) heater. I thought it might be a good idea to throw some heat in the cabin so it would be a little easier on t...

Re: Training at an uncontrolled vs controlled airport
Definitely check out the flying schools and choose the one that you like best. Airports are airports, the one you train at is irrelevant. Quality flying training will expose you to all types of airports. The quality of instruction, personality of your instructor, and how easy the school is to deal w...

Re: Training in the Red Bird Sim - PPL
I finished up the rest of my instrument time for my night rating in a Redbird sim. I was less than impressed. I don't think that I gained any more proficiency than I would have gained flying the same amount of time in Microsoft Flight Simulator on my home pc. My advice to the OP: You are learning to...

+1 That's exactly how I found my airplane.
They do - just click on the Search link, then there is a Country field. Just type in Canada.

Backcountry Cherokee
This is a video I made of a flight I did the other day from Fort St. James to the old Lovell Cove airstrip. The strip has seen better days and the Cherokee is no bushplane, but it did ok I think. The wheelpants did a great job of keeping mud off of the wings. It's much better in HD, don't forget to ...

Re: one of my Fav. Av. Vids
That video is made up of clips from the French movie Les Chevaliers du Ciel. It's basically the French answer to Top Gun, made with the cooperation of the French Air Force, and it's a great film for when you need a fighter fix.

Re: You could say that ISIS is entering a zone of danger....
I bet it would cause atheists and members of (insert preferred religion of peace here) alike to think it's a bad idea to even pick up, never mind carry an AK around. In some parts of the world (like Afghanistan) people have to protect their villages from other villages, taliban, etc. Not every musl...
