Re: 2024 GS Schedule?
Hiring will slow in 2024. According to our ceo there is no longer a gap in pilot staffing requirements. Job posting has been taken down as well. I would imagine once Air Canada gets their new contract, westjet will once again be bleeding pilots and will need to hire to maintain staffing levels. Or ...

Re: Do you think Flair is a stable career choice?
I don't have numbers to prove to you that we turn a profit, but neither do you about any other non publicly traded airline in Canada. All I know, the flights I fly are still all full. On the longer east west flights I have been too heavy to climb above FL380 in at least 6 months. This is usually the...

Re: How to deal with expiring passport
I booked a stand by trip to the US in case they asked to see proof of travel, and canceled the flight 5 minutes after walking out the door with my new passport. Ipaid for the expedited service at the federal building passport office. They asked if I had an upcoming trip requiring a passport, but nev...

Re: Security line up delays at YYC
Often if you have the time, it's worth checking if B security has a shorter line than A. Early morning departures often A is lined up out the door, but B is clear. Sometimes it's the other way. Total crap shoot.

Re: Wow I thought salaries were on the rise
That 130k could be worth it, if the job is all scheduled flying, no on call of any kind, no non flying duties, expense account for food and incidentals on the road. 12 weeks paid vacation. And room to move up over time. 12 week of vacation? I had a half decent owner once upon a time… 12 weeks?!? Ye...

So OAT is irrelevant, and the temp in the left column for all intents and purposes in this question is irrelevant? All they want is the minimum torque for the planned take off weight?
Is the temp in the left column the assumed temperature that will give you the required torque then?

Re: WestJet Cargo
Virtually all the flights seem to get cancelled. If they’re on your schedule then you’re gonna be given something out of the reserve pile as your cargo flight has maybe a 10% chance of happening. I highly suspect the cargo operation might be wrapped up soon. Another WestJet success story. You say t...

Thanks for the replies and encouragement. What a difference a week makes! I’ve interviewed for and accepted a position as a FO MEDEVAC pilot on a King Air!! I do have to relocate but the company seems solid and the planes are state of the art and nearly new, so it qualifies as relocation “for the r...

Re: I give up on Canadian airlines
Europe and South America are largely out for the average individual. Asia has always been a big contract market. Middle east is mostly direct hires but obviously has a big portion of expat pilots. What I am looking for most out of a contract gig in no particular order: -Better pay than Canada -Lowe...

Re: FLAIR NOT PAYING PILOTS FOR WORK
A few questions: 1) if you knew the contract wording was weak, why did you vote "yes"? 2) the idea of a good contract is that it all your pilots have some sort of a good life. You do realize you're relying on the commercial decisions of the company to make your life better, right? What happens when...

Re: FLAIR NOT PAYING PILOTS FOR WORK
You guys under ALPA agreed to a max of 18 days of work per month? All your union reps who agreed to this should be canned immediately Honestly we need to stop shitting on our 3 man negotiating committee. A year ago a Captain made $114k and an FO made 60K. The 3 guys with little to no union experien...

Re: Should pilots be paid full hourly rates for every hour at airport on duty & ALPA MEC negotiate this?
We have a system, it's weird to explain to anyone outside of aviation, but it works. If you paid from check in to check out wages would just be lower to make up for it, and pilots on reserve, or in training, would get a pay cut. If you want to go after higher wages for credit hours, or more credit h...

Re: Ab initio training comes to Canada
And looking at the information trickling down in other threads, at least 2 of those airlines likely won't exist anymore before your training is finished... I don't see that as being as big a risk as a few posters suggest. I don't have inside knowledge on the program my airline is running, but I can...

If you plug any of those numbers from futboler14's chart into an inflation calculator it's eye popping. First year 737 Captain in 2003 paid $254.54/ h, which would be $392.57 today??? (not the $212.23 that it currently pays)

Like the Flair pilot program and the Jazz Approach program, I just don't understand who the target market for this type of cadet program is supposed to be. How many 17/18-year-olds have access to $160,000 to pay for such a program in today's economy? Even with assistance from the bank of Mom and Da...

Timing wise, this is the worst time of year to be looking for work. All the seasonal pilots just go laid off, summer travel is done, crop dusting is done, fire bombing and fire patrol are done, floats are done, travel and tourism is done, skydiving is done, even instructing dies down...etc. The next...

I think it means voluntary overtime. As in picking up flights on your days off for extra money as opposed to being drafted or forced to work days off. Not sure of the context it was used here.RippleRock wrote: ↑Sun Oct 01, 2023 7:54 am What does -VO- stand for again? I see it but what do those letters mean?
