maybe he veered off to the right of 21? that looks like Nicholson manfacturing on the right by the open door of the firetruck.

Re: VIDEO (aftermath): 2 YouTubers Wrecked their Airplane during OFF-Airport Landing

I guess he’s in the US, and I don’t know the rules there, but in Canada it’s not unlawful to teach someone to fly if you’re not a flight instructor (note CFI means something else here.) You can’t do it for reward, nor can the trainee count the hours towards a licence or permit, but it doesn’t look ...

he said he wants other pilots to learn from his mistake, was that mistake posting the illegal shit you are doing on the internet for all to see? he"ll be screwed if he doesnt have the credentials to offer initial flight instruction. he couldnt even hold a straight face when he said it was all his fa...

Re: Save Canadian Aviation March in Ottawa Oct 20th

Shouldn't the money be better distributed to help with mortgages, keep their children in college? Would you call CERB a success? My observation is it seems any social funding you implement it becomes very difficult to take away... people become needy leaches, dependant and not resilient. But you co...

Re: The personal log book thing.

Point completely missed. Once you have a thousand hours (or some quantity - exact figure not important - but more than the 84 it took you to get a PPL) you can fly as little as you like, and still not suck. (Did I touch a nerve there? Are you "one of those sucky private pilots who just plain sucks"...

Re: The personal log book thing.

It’s conceivable your insurance company might ask to see some documentary evidence of the experience you claimed to have when you renewed your policy. Particularly after an expensive claim, when the loss adjuster has a vested interest in denying you a payout. I don’t know how well it would be recei...

Re: How well do you know your fuel tanks

we should note that there are always some sediments and dirty fuel at the bottom of fuel tanks. All aircraft fuel systems draw fuel from low points in the tank. If there is enough contaminant it will be drawn to the engine whether there is one gallon or 100 gallons of fuel. That is why there are fu...

Re: Buying vs Renting

Owning an airplane takes money, discipline and dedication. I bought my airplane for my PPL and sold it after my CPL. Best decision I ever made. If you buy an aircraft, be sure you have the discipline in your flight planning. If you don’t, you might end up putting yourself in danger and no one can s...

Re: Buying vs Renting

And how does your average private pilot fly everyday when the weather is crap all winter and they have a full time job? Not my problem, and not the unverse’s problem, either. Entirely Baby’s problem. WAH, Baby’s too busy or lazy or poor or lives in the wrong country, or the weather’s too bad to fly...

Re: Buying vs Renting

I bought a 172 in 2016 for $23000 canadian with 20 hours dual. Flew it for over 400 hours in four years cost me a grand total of $6000 in annual costs and a few upgrades. Sold it this July for well over $35000. I flew whenever I wanted for as long as i liked and did four provinces in it. But i was ...

Re: Buying vs Renting

If you're planning to fly only two one hour flights a month, just rent. This raises an interesting point. I don’t believe a newly qualified pilot can reach or maintain a safe standard of pilot skill with only one or two hours a month. To paraphrase someone helpful, If you have fewer than 1000 hours...

Your aircraft doesn't have an electrical system?

this little thing will run a handheld for much longer than the fuel tanks will keep the engine running in most light planes, and they cost very little.

Re: Is the Class C Control Zone at Langley Airport Dysfunctional?

Come on people, a handheld IS pocket change for anyone who can afford a car let alone a plane, and the cheap ones work just fine if money really is the issue, just like a new $15k Nissan Micra will get you from A to B just as well as the 150k Benz. Yeah, I realize the range of a a handheld isn't as ...

Re: Is the Class C Control Zone at Langley Airport Dysfunctional?

As for NORDO, if you're gonna fly in busy airspace and can afford a plane, you can afford a F-------- handheld. Sure, and if you're flying a single-engine airplane over a populated area you can afford a #%@&#%$ ballistic full-airframe parachute. The argument isn't any different, you've just chosen ...

Re: Is the Class C Control Zone at Langley Airport Dysfunctional?

Geography is easy. Avoiding traffic and not busting the absolute clusterfuck of airspace is what's hard. I did YCW to YVR with no flight following and still managed to bust a moronic "control area extension" buried under god knows how many wedding cake layers of terminal airspace outside the goddam...

Re: Is the Class C Control Zone at Langley Airport Dysfunctional?

Well, to be honest, you don't need FF to get from YXX to YVR in the lower mainland, with all of the excellent geographical references (and the fact that the lower mainland is a wide valley pointing almost right at YVR). Draw on the pilotage and dead reckoning skills that you learned when you were a...

Re: What is "lift"?

Lift is the opposition to gravity and thrust is the opposition to drag. To climb, more lift needs to be created to overcome gravity. The lift is created by increasing AOA and then more thrust is added to overcome drag to maintain airspeed. AOA is lower in a climb as a component of power is counteri...
